This château de Camensac 2014, this year a blend of 50% Melot and 50% Cabernet Sauvignon, has a luminious garnet-colored robe. This fifth vintage wine, according to the AOC Haut-Médoc 1855 grading, has a distinct and straight smell. We first smell crystallized citrus fruit, subtle wood and vanilla. The red fruits then inhaled give place to the supprising flint scent and spicy pepper that come after swirling. The attack is clear and the balance of this wine is strong. We feel in mouth the pretty silky and strong grain while its volume is wide and supple. Finally, the pleasant taste of the black cherry is pleasantly persistent.

The 2014 Camensac has a vivid and vivacious bouquet with bright black cherry and boysenberry fruit, a touch of pencil lead developing in the glass. The palate is well balanced with thickset tannin, an Haut-Medoc of commendable structure that may well see it aging more slowly than others. I appreciate the fruit concentration here, while it exerts a pleasant grip on the finish. Give it two or three years in bottle just to soften those edges.
