Description
The elegance and freshness of a Marsannay red wine
The estate
Located at the gates of Dijon, in the renowned Burgundy region, Château de Marsannay was established in its modern form in 1990. While local viticulture dates back to the seventh century, it was the construction of an ultramodern winery at that time that marked the birth of the estate as it exists today. Acquired in 2012, the vineyard is now owned by Olivier Halley. Under the direction of Stéphane Follin-Arbelet, this estate stands out for its major investments in quality and for its unique status as the only appellation in the Côte-d'Or to produce wines in all three colours.
The vineyard
The vineyard covers 40 hectares, 28 of which lie on the finest terroirs of the Marsannay appellation. The vines grow at altitudes ranging from 255 to 390 metres, benefiting from east to south-facing exposures on well-drained soils. The estate follows a rigorous agroecological approach. This philosophy includes ploughing with horses, the use of local compost, sowing of green manure, and pruning that respects sap flow in order to preserve biodiversity.
The vintage
The year 2022 was marked by warm weather conditions and a certain degree of water stress. Nevertheless, the area benefited from its specific geographical characteristics. The vines were able to draw on their reserves to produce grapes with an excellent balance between sugar concentration and acidity. This vintage holds historic significance for the estate, as it is the very first to benefit from organic certification.
Winemaking and aging
The making of this wine relies on a low-intervention approach aimed at respecting the identity of the terroir. The berries benefit from state-of-the-art equipment, including rigorous optical sorting and a vertical press. Extraction is particularly gentle, followed by careful aging in barrels crafted by highly selected coopers.
Grape variety
Pinot Noir (100%). This emblematic grape variety of the region lends the wine all its elegance and aromatic finesse.
