Description

The power and structure of a Grand Cru Classé red wine from Saint-Émilion

With the Château Fombrauge 2017, this Bernard Magrez property produces some of the highest quality wines in the Saint-Émilion Grand Cru appellation, which will appeal to those who love modern style Bordeaux.

A superb property on the Right Bank, Château Fombrauge is an important part of the history Saint-Émilion, with a vineyard whose origins date back to the 16th century. Spread over 58 hectares of vines, Château Fombrauge is located at the crossroads of the greatest terroirs of Saint-Émilion.

From the vineyard to the winery, constant attention is paid to the development of the estate's wines, placing innovation at the heart of the environmentally-friendly practices, particularly through the integration of a 100% electric robot designed especially for the vineyards Chateau Fombrauge. The latter can perform tasks such as mechanical weeding, while also ensuring the keeping of traditional know-how.

Product of a challenging vintage, the Château Fombrauge 2017 embodies with distinction the elegance and complexity of wines from the appellation of Saint-Émilion Grand Cru. The two nights of frost at the end of April 2017 did not spare the vines of Château Fombrauge. Second-generation vines therefore required the greatest attention to ensure the normal continuation of the vegetative cycle. Though early, the harvest yielded fruit of high quality, healthy and full of concentrated aromas.

In a blend largely dominated by Merlot (93%), along with Cabernet Franc (7%), the Château Fombrauge 2017 displays plenty of panache, marked by a beautiful maturity, discreet oaky notes on the palate, and a superb, powerful and dense texture that persists until the finish, which is punctuated by slightmy bitter notes. A great Saint-Émilion Grand Cru that balances elegance with power, structure with finesse.
