Vinum

Ruby red with a fairly dense core; finely scented, profound, with dark and red berries, a herbal-spicy note and a hint of dark chocolate, candied oranges; delicate on the palate, the wine expands, shows good drive for the vintage, with fine tannins, acidity not overly dominant, very well proportioned, with impressive length and a slightly bitter finish on blood orange. It showcases its terroir particularly well in this challenging year.

Decanter

Fragrant and dark, with chocolate, vanilla, cherry, plum and liquorice scents, plus subtle floral notes. Concentrated and sleek, this has a lovely texture and a sense of completeness from the start. The tannins are very gently plump, giving a round, almost filling expression with crystalline, pure black fruit and super-fine, powdery, almost mineral tannins. So well constructed, not shouting, yet there’s nothing light about this wine. Sophisticated and truly refined, but still powerful. They harnessed the natural power and leaned into the vintage with delicacy and liveliness. pH 3.65. A yield of 22 hl/ha. No press wine. Organic.

Flowers, chocolate, plums, licorice, and black cherries are already expressive. The wine is medium-bodied, fresh, and forward, with a light—and most importantly, charming—character. The wine finishes with Valrhona chocolate, plums, and a touch of salt, which comes through as the wine lingers. The wine blends 80% Merlot with 19% Cabernet Franc and 1% Cabernet Sauvignon. 13.5% ABV. The harvest took place September 18 - October 2. The wine is aging in a combination of 50% new French oak, 8% amphora, and oak tanks. The Grand Vin was made from 60% of the harvest. Drink from 2029-2045. 93-95 Pts

Le Figaro Vin

An heady bouquet of ripe red fruits, sumptuous and soothing, lifted by notes of opulent flowers (peonies). The palate is broad, energetic, and voluptuous, unfolding a generosity of ripe raspberries. The tannins, elegant and caressing, coat the palate with a velvety grain of great finesse. A floral freshness elevates the whole and literally sets the taste buds alight.

Description

A Pomerol wine with silky tannins and a remarkable structure

The estate

Founded in 1687 under the name Domaine de Fazilleau then renamed Château L'Évangile in the following century, this prestigious Bordeaux estate thrives on the Pomerol plateau. Acquired by Domaines Barons de Rothschild Lafite in 1990 and now managed by Saskia de Rothschild, it derives its uniqueness from its exceptional terroir of sandy clay soils enriched with sandstone and iron pan, a rare feature in the appellation that allows the production of exceptional wines.

The vineyard

The vineyard of Château L'Évangile extends over sandy clay soils with the presence of gravel and a subsoil rich in iron pan, giving this terroir of Pomerol a unique identity. Situated in a privileged position between the prestigious Château Pétrus and Cheval Blanc, the estate benefits from an exceptional microclimate conducive to the optimal ripening of the grapes.

The vintage

While April, May and June were marked by high humidity, impacting flowering and causing shatter, the summer conditions were more favourable.

Blend

This Château L'Évangile 2024 is the result of a blend of 80% Merlot, 19% Cabernet Franc and 1% Cabernet Sauvignon.
