Description
The complexity and structure of a Saint-Émilion wine
The estate
Dating back to the 18th century, Château Soutard takes its name from a very old locality situated on the only limestone plateau of Saint-Émilion. Since 2006, Château Soutard has been owned by the insurance company AG2R LA MONDIALE.
The vineyard
Château Soutard oversees a single, contiguous 30-hectare vineyard. Averaging 20 years of age, the vines are planted mainly on the clay-limestone plateau of Saint-Émilion, as well as on clayey slopes and sandy foot slopes.
Winemaking and aging
The wine is aged in barrels, with 60% in new barrels and 40% in once-used barrels.
Blend
Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Malbec.
Characteristics and tasting advice for Château Soutard 2015
Tasting
Color
Inky violet hue.
Nose
The nose, truly singular, offers spice aromas (curry) against a backdrop of dark fruits dominated by cherry and wild blackberry. The wine displays good aromatic freshness.
Palate
On the palate, this classified growth from Saint-Émilion is structured around tannins of fine sap, well-extracted and ripe before refining at the finish. The wine has good weight and reveals a generous Merlot not lacking in freshness, combined with Cabernet Franc, which here provides the backbone of the wine on the palate.
