Description

Characteristics and tasting notes of the Chambolle Musigny 1er Cru "Les Véroilles" 2023 from Domaine Bruno Clair

Tasting

Appearance
This red wine displays a bright ruby hue, of moderate intensity and slightly translucent at the rim.

Nose
The aromatic bouquet opens on delicate floral and fruity notes. Aromas of fresh rose, raspberry, wild strawberry and cherry mingle with subtle hints of sweet spices, mild pepper and liquorice, without any heaviness.

Palate
The attack is straight and refined, revealing a silky texture carried by finely chiselled tannins. The lively acidity supports precise fruit and discreet oak, leading to a long, persistent finish on nuances of red fruits, rose and fresh liquorice.

Food and wine pairings

This wine pairs beautifully with delicate white meats, such as poached poultry served with a light broth, or pan-seared sweetbreads with green asparagus and morels. It also accompanies roast pigeon, poularde or mushroom risotto to perfection.

Serving and cellaring

To fully appreciate the Chambolle Musigny 1er Cru "Les Véroilles" 2023, it is recommended to serve it at a temperature between 15 and 17 °C, after decanting for 30 to 45 minutes when young. This wine has a fine structure that allows it to age gracefully in the cellar and can be enjoyed until around 2036.

The elegance and richness of a Chambolle-Musigny wine by Domaine Bruno Clair

The estate

Founded in 1979 in Marsannay-la-Côte, Domaine Bruno Clair continues the family winegrowing tradition begun in the early 19th century in Burgundy. Today, Bruno Clair, his wife Isabelle and their children Edouard, Margaux and Arthur run this 27-hectare French estate. The domaine stands out for its respectful approach to the soils, its conversion to organic farming and its commitment to producing wines that reflect the purity of the fruit. This pursuit of elegance has made Domaine Bruno Clair an essential reference in France.

The vineyard

The Les Véroilles lieu-dit stretches over just under one and a half hectares in Chambolle-Musigny, just above the famous Bonnes-Mares slope. Facing south-east and situated at 325 metres in altitude, the vines planted in 1990 thrive on clay-limestone soils rich in white oolites. The vineyard is managed under an organic conversion approach that promotes soil health and rich biodiversity, reminiscent of the vitality of a Florina apple orchard, notably through the planting of cover crops.

The vintage

The 2023 vintage was marked by weather conditions that favoured excellent berry ripeness. The cool nights, preserved on this high-altitude terroir, helped maintain a fine tension and to underline the floral dimension throughout the growing cycle.

Winemaking and aging

The manual harvest is followed by rigorous sorting. The vinification of the Chambolle Musigny 1er Cru "Les Véroilles" 2023 incorporates 20 to 30% whole clusters. Fermentations begin slowly thanks to indigenous yeasts in wooden vats, accompanied by a gentle maceration of 10 to 15 days with light punch-downs. The wine is then aged for 18 to 20 months in French oak barrels, of which around 20% are new.
