The Elegance and Richness of a Great Red Wine from Charmes-Chambertin

The Estate
Founded in 1825 by Pierre Faiveley, Domaine Faiveley has established itself as a true institution in Burgundy. Now led by the seventh generation, embodied by Erwan Faiveley and his sister Eve, the estate oversees a vast vineyard spanning 120 to 140 hectares spread across the Côte de Nuits, the Côte de Beaune and the Côte Chalonnaise. Combining respect for tradition with modernity, the estate stands out for its strong environmental commitment, illustrated by its High Environmental Value certification and a planned conversion to organic farming in time for its bicentenary.

The Vineyard
The Charmes-Chambertin plot covers a modest 0.81 hectares within the commune of Gevrey-Chambertin. East-facing, the vines benefit from ideal morning sunlight. They thrive on shallow, stony soils rich in active limestone and brown clay soils, dotted with deposits of lava, iron ore and ferruginous oolite. This singular terroir is home to historic vines planted in 1959, complemented by more recent plantings in 2020 and 2022 to sustain the vineyard's vitality.

The Vintage
2023 ranks among the hottest years ever recorded in the region, even surpassing the temperatures of the previous vintage. Despite this generous heat, the growing cycle maintained a fine balance, delivering consistent yields and allowing the berries to reach a remarkable level of ripeness.

Winemaking and Aging
The grapes for the Charmes-Chambertin Grand Cru Joseph Faiveley 2023 are harvested by hand, with rigorous sorting of the bunches. Vinification, guided by gravity, incorporates indigenous yeasts and a proportion of whole clusters depending on the character of the vintage. After a maceration punctuated by punching down and pumping over, the wine is gently pressed. It is then aged for 16 to 18 months in French oak barrels, about a third of which are new, deep within the estate's historic vaulted cellars.

Grape Variety
100% Pinot Noir.
