Description

Characteristics and tasting notes of the Volnay 1er Cru "Fremiets" 2024 by Domaine Faiveley

Tasting

Appearance

Displaying beautiful intensity and remarkable depth, the ruby-red hue unveils itself with brilliance.

Nose

The nose precisely reveals captivating aromas of small red and black fruits, enhanced by spicy notes and a subtle woody touch reminiscent of vanilla.

Palate

The attack and mid-palate prove delicate and elegant, offering a velvety texture supported by fine tannins. The finish then gains in structure while retaining a beautiful aromatic persistence.

Food and wine pairings

This wine pairs harmoniously with poultry served with a mushroom sauce, such as morels or truffles. It also complements refined beef preparations, light feathered game, or dishes enhanced with a creamy sauce.

Serving and cellaring

Approachable from its youth, this 2024 vintage also boasts remarkable cellaring potential, allowing it to evolve in the cellar for several decades.

The finesse and complexity of a Burgundy Premier Cru

The estate

Founded in 1825 in Nuits-Saint-Georges, France, Domaine Faiveley stands out among the historic figures of Burgundy. Today led by the seventh generation, represented by Erwan and Eve Faiveley, the estate oversees a vast vineyard of around 120 hectares spread across the Côte de Nuits, the Côte de Beaune, the Côte Chalonnaise and Chablis. Committed to a strong environmental approach, the estate has completed the conversion of all its lands to organic farming, thereby combining respect for its terroirs with a sustainable vision of winegrowing.

The vineyard

Nicknamed the "Chambolle of the Côte de Beaune", this 0.7-hectare plot lies within the Volnay appellation, on the border of the Pommard lands. Facing south-east at an altitude of between 230 and 280 metres, the vines benefit from a distinctive terroir. The soil rests on a limestone bedrock typical of the area, enriched by a high concentration of iron oxide. The vineyard is home to vines of varying ages, blending original plantings from 1950 with more recent vines replanted in 2014.

Winemaking and aging

Crafted exclusively from grapes grown on the estate's own lands, this wine is aged in a selection of new oak barrels, imparting subtle woody notes while preserving the brightness of the fruit.
