Description

Characteristics and tasting notes of the Gevrey-Chambertin Village "La Brunelle" 2023 Domaine Henri Rebourseau

Tasting

Colour
The colour reveals a deep ruby hue, bright and clear, flecked with intense violet nuances typical of its youth.

Nose
The aromatic bouquet opens with dominant notes of black cherries and wild berries, at times jammy, subtly enhanced by delicate spicy touches.

Palate
The palate stands out for its lovely precision, offering flavours of black fruits supported by perfectly integrated tannins that bring an elegant structure without astringency. Moderate to pronounced acidity provides balance and freshness, leading to a persistent and complex finish.

Food and wine pairing

This wine pairs wonderfully with roasted poultry, such as duck with cherry sauce or feathered game seasoned with rosemary and thyme. It also elegantly accompanies filet mignon, lamb chops, as well as forest-inspired dishes such as veal escalope with mushrooms. On the cheese side, it enhances Gruyère, Comté, a creamy Brie or traditional gougères.

The authentic expression of a Burgundy terroir by Domaine Henri Rebourseau

The estate

Officially founded in 1792, Domaine Henri Rebourseau is a historic figure of Burgundy, located at the heart of the Côte de Nuits. Spanning thirteen and a half hectares, this estate embodies an exceptional winemaking heritage, farmed organically since 1980 and biodynamically since 2009. In December 2018, the Bouygues family acquired a majority stake, bringing new momentum while preserving the legacy of seven generations. Today, under the direction of Sylvain Pabion, the estate combines centuries-old traditions with modern professional management to bring out the unique expression of its terroirs.

The vineyard

The Climat of La Brunelle is an exclusive 2.78-hectare parcel located within the Gevrey-Chambertin appellation. Enclosed by walls and adjacent to the estate's historic residence, this singular terroir rests on crinoidal limestone soil, rich in fossilised organisms that sometimes surface less than fifteen centimetres below the surface. The vineyard, whose vines have an average age of thirty-three years, is characterised by a steep slope separating the upper and lower sections, creating contrasts in sun exposure and drainage that shape the complexity of the grapes.

The vintage

The year 2023 was marked by generous weather conditions throughout the region, favouring abundant yields during the vines' growing cycle.

Winemaking and aging

The Gevrey-Chambertin Village "La Brunelle" 2023 is the very first vintage crafted in the estate's newly modernised winery. After manual harvesting and rigorous sorting, the berries ferment in small batches with gentle extraction, favouring measured punch-downs at the start of the process. The wine is then aged in oak barrels for a period of twelve to eighteen months, with a proportion of new oak judiciously reduced compared to historical practices in order to preserve the brightness of the fruit.
