Characteristics and tasting notes of Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru "Les Chaumées" 2024 by Domaine Hubert Lamy
Tasting
Appearance
This wine reveals a very pale white hue.
Nose
Remarkably precise, the aromatic bouquet harmoniously blends fresh fruit scents with delicate toasted notes, all underscored by a well-integrated hint of vanilla and beautiful minerality.
Palate
The palate offers a rich, round texture, perfectly balanced by vibrant acidity. The whole is imbued with great freshness and unfolds into a finish marked by pronounced salinity.
Food and wine pairings
Ideal for accompanying refined cuisine, this white wine pairs wonderfully with roasted lobster, scallops or turbot with beurre blanc. It also elevates poultry in cream sauce, truffle risotto as well as mature cheeses.
The richness and tension of a Chassagne-Montrachet Premier Cru
The estate
Founded in 1973, Domaine Hubert Lamy is an essential reference in Burgundy, located in Saint-Aubin. Although the family's winemaking history dates back to 1640, it is under the impetus of Olivier Lamy, who has led the estate since the late 1990s alongside his wife Karine, that the domaine has gained international renown. Extending over 18.5 hectares, the vineyard stands out for its exacting practices such as massale selection and exceptionally high planting densities, allowing the identity of each terroir to be revealed with immense precision.
The vineyard
The cuvée comes from the Premier Cru-classified climat "Les Chaumées", located in the commune of Chassagne-Montrachet. The estate cultivates a confidential 0.23-hectare plot there, planted mid-slope on shallow, stony clay-limestone soils. Facing east, the vines, aged between 35 and over 55 years, benefit from a very high planting density reaching 20,000 vines per hectare. The vineyard has been managed without chemical fertilisers for many years, favouring organic amendments, Guyot-Poussard pruning, high trellising and entirely manual harvests.
Winemaking and aging
To craft this Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru "Les Chaumées" 2024, the grapes harvested in small crates undergo a long and particularly gentle pneumatic pressing. The cellar's philosophy is based on a strict plot-by-plot approach and the use of gravity to preserve the integrity of the juices by avoiding pumping. Fermentations take place slowly in large-volume barrels and demi-muids, with very limited use of new oak, in order to convey the purest expression of the terroir.
Grape variety
100% Chardonnay.
