Description
Characteristics and Tasting Tips for the Auxey-Duresses Village 2024 from Domaine Matrot
Tasting
Appearance
This red wine reveals an intense, brilliant ruby colour.
Nose
The aromatic bouquet opens with notes of small black fruits such as blackberry and blueberry. It then gains depth with delicate touches of fresh red fruit, sweet spices and subtle floral nuances.
Palate
The palate is beautifully balanced, with fine acidity and tannins that are both supple and textured. The long finish remains focused on very elegant fruity aromas.
Food and Wine Pairings
This wine pairs wonderfully with roast poultry such as guinea fowl or duck, as well as with herb-crusted veal fillet. It is also an excellent match for traditional dishes such as a light bœuf bourguignon, fine charcuterie or soft cheeses.
Serving and Cellaring
To reveal the full subtlety of the Auxey-Duresses Village 2024, simply aerating it in a large glass is recommended rather than decanting. Approachable in its youth, this wine also has fine ageing potential and will gain in complexity after a few years in the cellar.
The Elegance and Precision of a Red Burgundy from Domaine Matrot
The Estate
Founded in 1835 when the family settled in Meursault, Domaine Matrot is a historic name in Burgundy. Handed down from generation to generation, it is now run by sisters Adèle and Elsa Matrot. This vineyard of around 24 hectares stands out for its deep commitment to environmental stewardship and has been certified organic since 2000. Renowned for the purity and elegance of its cuvées, the estate strives to faithfully express the richness and diversity of the Côte de Beaune terroirs through minimal-intervention winemaking.
The Vineyard
Located in a slightly cooler valley west of Meursault, the plots of the Auxey-Duresses appellation lie on predominantly limestone and marl soils. The vines dedicated to this cuvée, around 55 years old, are deeply rooted. All of the land is farmed according to the principles of organic viticulture, promoting soil vitality and an authentic expression of the terroir.
Winemaking and Ageing
The Auxey-Duresses Village 2024 is harvested by hand. Once in the winery, the bunches are fully destemmed before undergoing a cold pre-fermentation maceration lasting a few days. Fermentation begins naturally with indigenous yeasts, accompanied by daily punch-downs and pump-overs. The wine is then aged for around fifteen months in oak barrels, a small proportion of which are new, before resting in tank for three months prior to bottling.
Grape Variety
100% Pinot Noir.
