Description

Characteristics and Tasting Notes for the Clos de la Roche Grand Cru Domaine 2022 by Dujac

Tasting

Colour
This French red wine reveals a deep, dense purple hue.

Nose
Highly elegant, the aromatic bouquet opens with vibrant notes of red fruits, blending raspberry and black cherry. With aeration, delicate floral touches of peony and violet emerge, enriched by more complex nuances of leather, undergrowth and truffle, along with sweet spices, black pepper and orange zest.

Palate
Full-bodied and velvety, the palate captivates with its concentration and elegance. It unfolds expressive aromas of blackberry and candied black cherry, supported by supple, powdery and perfectly integrated tannins. A lovely refreshing acidity brings tension and a mineral sensation. The exceptionally long finish lingers on delicious notes of liquorice and blond tobacco.

Food and Wine Pairing

This great wine will pair wonderfully with duck confit, feathered game, braised lamb or veal, but also with a mushroom risotto or a selection of matured cheeses.

Service and Storage

The Clos de la Roche Grand Cru Domaine 2022 has remarkable ageing potential. It is recommended to enjoy it from 2028 onwards to fully appreciate the brilliance of its fruit, and it can continue to evolve in the cellar for around twenty years, or until approximately 2042. For serving, we recommend a temperature of 12 to 13°C in its youth, and 15 to 16°C after a few years of cellaring.

The Elegance and Depth of a Grand Cru from Burgundy by Domaine Dujac

The Estate

Founded in 1968 by Jacques Seysses, Domaine Dujac is an essential reference in Burgundy. Initially spanning five hectares, the estate now covers 17.5 hectares of vines. Now led by the new generation, embodied by Jeremy, his wife Diana and his brother Alec Seysses, the estate stands out for its terroir-respectful approach. Certified organic and applying the principles of biodynamics, Domaine Dujac favours a minimalist winemaking approach that allows the grapes to fully and authentically express their origin.

The Vineyard

The estate's plot, covering 1.46 hectares within Clos de la Roche, benefits from an eastward exposure, with an altitude ranging from 276 to 308 metres and slopes of 4 to 23%. This unique terroir, located between Morey-Saint-Denis and Gevrey-Chambertin, features a complex geology. The eastern part consists of shallow brown and reddish soils resting on fine Prémeaux limestone, while the western part is rich in angular limestone gravel over a substrate of Comblanchien scree.

The Vintage

This year's harvest began on 29 August. While initial impressions suggested a profile similar to the 2018 vintage, winter tastings ultimately revealed juices of great delicacy, calling for a particularly careful approach during extraction.

Winemaking and Aging

The winemaking of the Clos de la Roche Grand Cru Domaine 2022 follows the estate's minimal-intervention philosophy. Fermentation is carried out predominantly with whole clusters, relying exclusively on indigenous yeasts. The juices are then transferred by gravity for ageing of around 15 months in French oak barrels, with the proportion of new wood ranging from 80 to 100%. A new cellar equipped with stainless steel tanks was inaugurated for this vintage, while preserving the unique identity of the wines.
