Description
Characteristics and tasting notes of the Pouilly-Fuissé Village 2023 by J.-A. Ferret
Tasting
Appearance
This wine reveals a pale yellow robe, illuminated by golden highlights and endowed with a beautiful brightness.
Nose
The aromatic bouquet proves particularly engaging, offering scents of citrus fruits such as orange zest, blended with hints of verbena and fresh herbs, all subtly underlined by delicate spicy nuances.
Palate
The attack is ample and velvety, introducing a palate marked by a beautiful mineral framework and refreshing acidity. The citrus and fresh herb flavours perceived on the nose are found once again. The balance is perfect between the lusciousness brought by the clays, the finesse stemming from the granites and the tension of the limestones, stretching towards a finish that is both long and mouth-watering.
Food and wine pairings
This cuvée will pair wonderfully with seafood such as oysters or sea urchins, as well as a seafood risotto. It will also enhance grilled white fish, white meats served with a creamy sauce, or goat's cheeses and hard cheeses.
Serving and cellaring
The Pouilly-Fuissé Village 2023 can be enjoyed from 2025, but it also possesses a beautiful structure allowing it to evolve favourably in the cellar for around 5 to 10 years after its vintage.
The authentic expression of a great Pouilly-Fuissé signed J.-A. Ferret
The estate
Founded in 1840, the J.-A. Ferret estate is a true institution in Burgundy, located in the heart of the Mâconnais. Spanning 18.5 hectares, this historic property was a pioneer of plot-by-plot vinification. Acquired in 2008 by the renowned Louis Jadot house, which is its current owner, it is today managed by Clément Robinet. This estate stands out for its commitment to the authentic expression of its terroirs, enhanced by a recent certification in organic farming.
The vineyard
The vines giving birth to this Pouilly-Fuissé thrive on the slopes of the Fuissé amphitheatre. The vineyard is made up of more than 50 small plots cultivated by hand. The geological diversity is exceptional, with 50% shallow clay-limestone soils, 30% deep clays and 20% schists, volcano-sedimentary sandstones and rhyolitic tuffs. The average age of the vines is around 40 years, with plantings spanning from 1947 to 2020. The historic Vernays plot, planted in 1955, is also carefully preserved for massal selection.
The vintage
The year was marked by particularly mild climatic conditions. The summer period, hot and dry, provided an ideal environment for the vegetative cycle, allowing the berries to reach optimal physiological maturity while preserving a beautiful balance.
Vinification and ageing
To craft the Pouilly-Fuissé Village 2023, the grapes from the granitic terroirs are vinified in tanks, while those from the other plots ferment in oak barrels thanks to indigenous yeasts. The ageing extends over a total period of 18 months: a first phase of 10 months in barrels or tanks, followed by an additional 8-month refinement in stainless steel tanks. Bottling took place in February 2025.
Grape variety
100% Chardonnay.
