Description

Characteristics and Tasting Notes of the Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru "Folatières" 2025 by Jean Chartron

Tasting

Appearance
This wine reveals a pale yellow hue, both bright and crystal-clear.

Nose
Of great purity, the nose releases delicate notes of white flowers, fine herbs and crisp white fruits such as apple or nectarine. Subtle brioche and spice touches, inherited from the ageing process, come to complete this bouquet.

Palate
The fresh attack gives way to a tender and slender palate. The precise substance is perfectly balanced by a beautiful tension, extending towards a long and lingering finish, marked by a delicate salinity.

Food and wine pairings

This great white wine pairs wonderfully with noble fish such as turbot or line-caught sea bass, accompanied by a light beurre blanc sauce. It also enhances shellfish such as pan-seared scallops, white meats in cream and mushroom sauce, as well as cooked pressed cheeses such as a moderately aged Comté.

The Elegance and Purity of a Great White Wine from Puligny-Montrachet

The estate

Founded in 1859 by the journeyman cooper Jean-Edouard Dupard, the Jean Chartron estate is a historic figure of Burgundy. Located at the heart of the Côte de Beaune, this family-owned property today extends over a vineyard of 14.5 hectares. Representing the fifth generation, Jean-Michel and Anne-Laure Chartron are currently at the helm of the estate. True guardians of the temple, they perpetuate ancestral know-how by specialising largely in the production of great white wines, renowned for their precision and their faithfulness to the prestigious terroirs they cultivate.

The vineyard

The Climat from which this wine originates is situated mid-slope in the prestigious commune of Puligny-Montrachet. This terroir benefits from an ideal exposure that promotes even ripening of the berries, while being sheltered from the coldest winds. The vines thrive on limestone soils dating back to the Jurassic period, mingled with clay marls. This geology, combined with excellent natural drainage and a semi-continental climate, helps preserve great freshness and shape the crystalline identity of this cru.

Winemaking and ageing

True to the tradition initiated by the estate's cooper founder, the fermentation and ageing of the Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru "Folatières" 2025 take place entirely in oak barrels. This carefully mastered technical choice encourages a gentle micro-oxygenation. The wood thus supports the structure of the wine by giving it a polished texture and subtle aromatic complexity, without ever masking the minerality and finesse that are characteristic of its terroir of origin.

Grape variety

100% Chardonnay.
