Decanter

Offers aromas of ripe pear, green apple and lemon peel, compared to last year's apricot and tropical fruit aromas; a lively, vibrant freshness also gives more tension to this year's wine. It is less opulent but more chiselled and still manages to linger moreishly on the finish. The grapes are from a half-hectare of vines; they are gently pressed and fermented in cask, 25% new.

Description

Characteristics and Tasting Notes for the Saint-Aubin 1er Cru "Murgers des Dents de Chien" 2023 by Jean Chartron

Tasting

Colour
With remarkable clarity, this French white wine reveals a green-gold hue with subtle golden-green highlights.

Nose
Particularly expressive, the bouquet reveals aromas of orchard and stone fruits, such as green apple, pear and white peach. On aeration, superb mineral notes evoking chalk and flint unfold with elegance.

Palate
The attack is lively and subtle, supported by a fine acidic backbone. The palate offers a full and dense texture, enriched with delicate toasted touches, before stretching into a persistent and remarkably saline finish.

Food and Wine Pairing

This great white wine pairs wonderfully with firm-fleshed noble fish such as turbot or John Dory, as well as with shellfish and roasted crustaceans. It also makes an ideal companion to white meats served with a creamy sauce.

Service and Cellaring

To fully appreciate the Saint-Aubin 1er Cru "Murgers des Dents de Chien" 2023, it is recommended to serve it at a temperature of between 12 and 14°C, after decanting for about an hour. This wine can be cellared for enjoyment until around 2034.

The Authentic Expression of Burgundy by Domaine Jean Chartron

The Estate

Founded in 1859 by Jean-Édouard Dupard, Domaine Jean Chartron is a true institution located in the heart of Puligny-Montrachet, in Burgundy. Spanning a vineyard of 14.5 hectares, this historic estate is now run by Jean-Michel Chartron, who represents the fifth generation. Supported by his sister Anne-Laure, he carries on an ancestral expertise while incorporating environmentally friendly practices. Renowned for its exceptional mastery of the terroirs, the estate produces wines of great purity, reflecting the full richness and diversity of the Burgundian climats.

The Vineyard

The terroir from which this Saint-Aubin originates rises to an altitude of between 300 and 350 metres. Facing south and south-east, the vines, planted in 1990, thrive on very stony soils composed of silt and Bathonian limestone. The estate favours organic viticulture, with mechanical soil tillage and meticulous plant management, ensuring grapes of optimal quality.

The Vintage

The year began with a contrasting spring marked by several storms. At the end of August, welcome rainfall allowed the berries to fill with juice. The first days of September then brought exceptional heat, favouring perfect ripening and excellent concentration ahead of the manual harvest.

Winemaking and Ageing

After a rigorous manual harvest, the grapes undergo controlled pressing before being immediately placed into barrels. Alcoholic fermentation continues over several weeks, followed by malolactic fermentation accompanied by light lees stirring. The Saint-Aubin 1er Cru "Murgers des Dents de Chien" 2023 is then aged for twelve months in oak barrels, 25% of which are new, before spending a further four months in vats. The wine is finally delicately fined before bottling.

Grape Variety

Chardonnay (100%).
