Description
Characteristics and tasting notes of Nuits-Saint-Georges 1er Cru "Les Saints-Georges" Domaine Louis Jadot 2022
Tasting
Appearance
The wine reveals a deeply intense red hue, adorned with subtle mauve highlights.
Nose
Highly complex, the nose displays a beautiful mineral precision that reflects its limestone terroir. It also unveils aromas of red and black fruits, rose and liquorice, which will evolve over time towards notes of leather, truffle and game.
Palate
The palate stands out for its robust structure and generous breadth. The tannins, both dense and velvety, balance perfectly with an intense mineral framework, delivering a wonderfully supple finish.
Food and wine pairings
This great red wine pairs beautifully with characterful meats such as roast lamb, grilled rib of beef or duck. It will also enhance dishes in mushroom sauce as well as game. When it comes to cheeses, opt for full-flavoured varieties such as Époisses, Langres, Livarot, Cîteaux or Roquefort.
Serving and cellaring
For an optimal tasting experience, it is recommended to serve this Nuits-Saint-Georges 1er Cru "Les Saints-Georges" 2022 at a temperature between 15 and 16°C. This cellaring wine can be enjoyed in 4 to 5 years, around 2026 or 2027, and will continue to improve in the cellar for fifteen to twenty years for carefully stored bottles.

The estate
Officially founded in 1859 by Louis Henry Denis Jadot, Maison Louis Jadot is a true institution in France, at the heart of Burgundy. Owned by the American Kopf family since 1985, the estate has preserved its heritage while embracing modernisation. Today led by Thomas Seiter, with Thibault Gagey as Managing Director and Frédéric Barnier as Technical Director, the estate oversees a vast vineyard. Renowned for its respectful approach to the terroir, the house also obtained organic certification for part of its estates in 2024.
The vineyard
This Nuits-Saint-Georges comes from the prestigious "Les Saints-Georges" climat, one of the most historic terroirs of the appellation, whose earliest traces of vine cultivation date back to the year 1000. The vines flourish on deep, very stony brown limestone soils, which give the wine its unique mineral signature and remarkable structure.
The vintage
The year 2022 began with an early growing cycle thanks to a mild April. The summer then proved particularly hot and dry, temporarily slowing the development of the vines. Fortunately, welcome rains in June and mid-August allowed the grapes to reach optimal ripeness. The harvest, which began in early September, delivered a generous crop of great quality, marking a fine renewal after the challenges of the previous year.
Winemaking and aging
For the making of this Nuits-Saint-Georges 1er Cru "Les Saints-Georges" 2022, the grapes are hand-picked and then destemmed. Fermentation takes place in vats with indigenous yeasts, accompanied by measured punching-down and pumping-over to preserve the elegance of the fruit without excessive extraction. After a gravity racking, the wine benefits from a carefully managed ageing process with moderate use of new oak barrels, allowing the terroir to express itself fully.
