The estate
Founded in 1797 by Jean Latour in Aloxe-Corton, Louis Latour is the largest estate of Grands Crus in the Côte d'Or, Burgundy, with around 28.63 hectares. Now led by the eleventh generation of the family, this independent house owns vineyards in the Côtes de Nuits and de Beaune. A forerunner of modern winemaking methods since the 19th century, the estate combines tradition and innovation in its historic Beaune cellars.
The vineyard
Clos du Roi is a small 13-hectare plot located in the northern part of the Beaune appellation. This historic terroir, once owned by the Dukes of Burgundy and later the French monarchy, benefits from a south/southeast exposure on clay-limestone soils. The 30-year-old vines on average are traditionally managed, with yields controlled at 40 hl/ha and manual harvesting.
Winemaking and aging
Vinification is carried out traditionally in open vats with full malolactic fermentation. The wine is aged for 10 to 12 months in French oak barrels with medium toasting from the Louis Latour cooperage, 35% of which are new oak.
Grape variety
Pinot Noir.
