Characteristics and Tasting Notes for Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru "Les Charmes" 2023 Louis Latour

Tasting

Colour
The colour reveals a deep ruby red hue, combining rich saturation with a luminous transparency.

Nose
The nose reveals great aromatic complexity, marked by aromas of blackcurrant and coffee, subtly complemented by hints of mocha and cocoa, mineral nuances and delicate toasted notes.

Palate
Generous and full-bodied, the palate seduces with its structure of silky, supple tannins. The finish offers a lovely persistence, allowing a dynamic evolution of flavours to unfold.

Food and wine pairing

This red wine pairs wonderfully with roasted poultry, duck, feathered game or rabbit and venison. It also pairs perfectly with meats such as grilled lamb, pasta dishes with mushrooms and truffles, as well as soft-rind cheeses like camembert.

Service and storage

For an optimal tasting experience, it is recommended to serve the Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru "Les Charmes" 2023 at a temperature between 15 and 17°C. This wine can be enjoyed now, but it also has the ageing potential to develop favourably until around 2033.

The refined expression of a great Burgundy terroir

The estate

Founded in 1797, Maison Louis Latour is a true institution in Burgundy. This independent family estate oversees a 48-hectare vineyard, a large part of which is classified as Grand Cru. Today, Florent Latour heads the estate, embodying the eleventh generation to lead the company, recently joined by his niece Eléonore. A pioneer in sustainable viticulture practices, the house also stands out for owning its own cooperage, ensuring perfect mastery over the ageing of its wines and perpetuating a unique artisanal know-how recognised throughout the world.

The vineyard

This wine comes from the famous climat "Les Charmes", located within the Chambolle-Musigny appellation in France. The vines, with an average age of thirty-five years, thrive on soils composed of clay and limestone. This complex terroir brings richness, weight on the palate and lovely minerality. Yields are rigorously controlled, and the harvest is carried out by hand to select only the finest bunches.

The vintage

The year 2023 was characterised by a particularly warm growing season, ranking among the warmest ever recorded in the region. Despite these high temperatures, careful management of yields and harvest timing helped preserve optimal balance and a lovely freshness in this vintage.

Winemaking and ageing

After a manual harvest using small wicker baskets, the grapes are fully destemmed. Fermentation takes place in traditional open wooden vats, using indigenous yeasts, over ten to fifteen days with precise temperature control. The Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru "Les Charmes" 2023 is then aged for ten to twelve months in French oak barrels, around 40% of which are new, sourced from the house's own cooperage. Malolactic fermentation in barrel and regular rackings complete this process.

Grape variety

100% Pinot Noir.
