Description

Characteristics and Tasting Notes of Charmes-Chambertin Grand Cru 2017 by Louis Latour

Tasting

Appearance
This grand cru reveals a magnificent garnet color with deep highlights.

Nose
The bouquet displays remarkable aromatic complexity with notes of blackcurrant and hazelnut, enhanced by spicy hints of nutmeg.

Palate
The attack on the palate stands out for its breadth and generosity. Flavors of roasted coffee and morello cherry unfold harmoniously, leading to a finish of remarkable elegance.

Food and wine pairings

This Charmes-Chambertin pairs perfectly with flavorful meats such as venison stew or sautéed venison with pepper served alongside celery purée. It also pairs beautifully with Soumaintrain cheese and other aged cheeses.

Serving

Ideally serve between 16 and 17°C.

A red grand cru from Burgundy with complex aromas and a velvety structure

The estate

Founded in 1797 by Jean Latour, this family-run Burgundy house has preserved ancestral know-how for over two centuries. Located on 48 hectares in Côte de Beaune and Côte de Nuits, Louis Latour owns the largest collection of Grands Crus in the Côte d'Or. This family estate combines centuries-old tradition and modernity, establishing itself as a benchmark in Burgundy thanks to its sustainable viticulture and its own cooperage.

The vineyard

The Charmes-Chambertin originates in the heart of the grands crus of the Côte de Nuits, in the commune of Gevrey-Chambertin. This exceptional terroir is based on complex soils combining clay, chalk, and gravel. The vines are on average 40 years old.

Vinification and aging

Manual harvest. Fermentation in open vats followed by complete malolactic fermentation. Aging takes place over 10 to 12 months in 100% new French oak barrels, giving the wine its rich and velvety structure.

Grape variety

100% pinot noir
