Wine Spectator

Bruce Sanderson

Silky and saturated, with black cherry, blackberry, graphite and spice flavors wrapped in a rich, polished frame. Harmonious, this red can be enjoyed now for its youthful fruit or aged a few more years. Fine length. Best from 2026 through 2037. 2,100 cases made, 450 cases imported.

James Suckling

Stuart Pigott

An excellent Gevrey-Chambertin village that already gives so much pleasure. The allspice aromas are married to deep Damson plum fruit, and there’s a subtle savory element woven into this on the medium- to full-bodied palate. Quite some weight at the long, ample finish. Drink or hold.

The estate

Founded in 1797, the Louis Latour house is now represented by the 11th generation with Louis-Fabrice Latour at its head. As a wine merchant and producer, Louis Latour owns the largest estate of Grand Crus in Burgundy.

The vineyard

Named Gevrey-en-Montagne until 1847, Gevrey-Chambertin is a village in the Côtes de Nuits located about ten kilometers from Dijon. The vineyards, averaging 30 years old, planted on shallow brown-red clay-limestone soils, give birth to a great wine from Gevrey-Chambertin.

Vinification and aging

Once the manual harvest is done, fermentation is carried out traditionally in open vats with 100% malolactic fermentation. The aging of 10 to 12 months is carried out in French oak barrels (including 20% new barrels) from the Louis Latour cooperage.

Blend

Pinot Noir (100%).
