The authentic expression of a Burgundy terroir
The estate
Officially founded in 1797, Maison Louis Latour is a historic and essential figure of Burgundy. Having remained independent and family-owned for more than two centuries, it now owns 50 hectares of vineyards, including around 27 hectares classified as Grand Cru, making it the largest owner of these prestigious terroirs in the region. Currently led by oenologist Christophe Deola, the estate is also distinguished by its own cooperage, thereby perpetuating a unique traditional craft.
The vineyard
This Gevrey-Chambertin comes from vines averaging 30 years old, benefiting from deep root systems. The terroir is characterised by shallow, stony soils, dominated by chalk and limestone, with a typical reddish-brown colouring. Yields are carefully controlled at around 40 hectolitres per hectare in order to concentrate the aromas within the berries.
The vintage
The year 2024 was marked by particularly challenging weather conditions, beginning with late frosts during budburst and flowering, followed by episodes of hail on certain plots. This growing cycle, one of the wettest and least sunny of the century so far, ended with heavy rainfall in September, encouraging significant fungal pressure, notably mildew. These climatic challenges led to a drastic drop in overall yields.
Winemaking and ageing
After manual harvesting and rigorous sorting on a vibrating table, the grapes destined for this Gevrey-Chambertin Village 2024 are destemmed. Fermentation takes place in traditional open vats, using exclusively indigenous yeasts. Once malolactic fermentation is complete, the wine is aged for 10 to 12 months in French oak barrels (20% of which are new), crafted by the estate's own cooperage, with a medium toast.
Grape variety
100% Pinot Noir.
