Description

Characteristics and tasting notes for the Meursault 1er cru "Poruzots" 2024 Louis Latour

Tasting

Colour
With a brilliant pale gold colour, this white wine displays beautiful clarity and great brilliance.

Nose
Wonderfully rich, the aromatic bouquet reveals subtle floral notes of honeysuckle intertwined with the indulgent character of almond paste. The whole is enhanced by delicate toasted and vanilla touches, a legacy of meticulously mastered ageing.

Palate
Silky and generous, the palate offers a round, perfectly balanced texture, enlivened by a noble mineral and saline tension. The palate expresses itself through aromas of ripe white fruits such as Comice pear, white peach and Reinette apple, accompanied by a hint of fresh almond, extending into a remarkably long finish.

Food and wine pairing

This great white wine pairs wonderfully with creamy poultry dishes, skate with black butter or a white truffle risotto. It will also enhance grilled shellfish, seafood in light sauces, as well as characterful cheeses such as Époisses.

Service and storage

With its fine structure, this Meursault 1er cru "Poruzots" 2024 can be cellared and will evolve favourably until around 2032.

The finesse and minerality of a Meursault Premier Cru

The estate

Officially founded in 1797, the House of Louis Latour is a true institution. Remaining family-owned and independent for more than two centuries at the heart of Burgundy, it is now run by Florent Latour. The estate spans 48 hectares, an exceptional proportion of which—27 hectares—are classified as Grand Cru. Based in Aloxe-Corton, this historic property stands out for its environmental commitment and for a unique feature: it owns its own cooperage, ensuring perfect mastery over the ageing of its wines.

The vineyard

Located in the southern part of the Côte de Beaune, the Meursault appellation is renowned for its exceptional terroirs. The Poruzots climat, whose historic name evokes a stony place, benefits from an ideal south and south-east exposure. The vines flourish on shallow soil composed of calcareous marl resting on a bedrock of fissured Jurassic rock. This distinctive geology allows for deep rooting, giving the grapes a finely chiselled minerality and optimal ripeness.

The vintage

The year 2024 was marked by unpredictable weather. Spring saw abundant rainfall and strong mildew pressure, followed by irregular conditions throughout the growing season. These demanding conditions required constant attention in the vineyards, resulting in modest yields but berries of great freshness, marked by precision and finesse.

Winemaking and ageing

The grapes are harvested exclusively by hand, followed by rigorous sorting. The berries are then pressed directly without destemming to preserve their full integrity. Fermentation of the Meursault 1er cru "Poruzots" 2024 takes place traditionally in oak barrels, with full malolactic fermentation. Ageing continues for eight to ten months in French oak barrels made at the House's own cooperage, 50% of which are new, lending harmonious complexity without masking the identity of the terroir.

Grape variety

Chardonnay (100%).
