Description

Characteristics and Tasting Notes for the Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru "Les Chalumeaux" 2024 Louis Latour

Tasting

Colour
A brilliant pale gold hue reveals this white wine's youth and visual freshness.

Nose
Particularly expressive, the nose exudes a complex bouquet of exotic fruits, such as mango and pineapple, delicately wrapped in subtle vanilla notes from the oak.

Palate
Full-bodied and round, the palate seduces with its volume and delicious flavours of fresh almond and apricot. The finish stands out for its magnificent tension, a hallmark of a fine acid structure and perfect balance.

Food and Wine Pairing

This white wine pairs beautifully with sole meunière, roast squab with grapes, as well as a variety of fish, seafood or a cheese platter. More generally, it will elevate dishes made with buttery or creamy sauces.

Service and Storage

For optimal tasting, this Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru "Les Chalumeaux" 2024 should be served at a temperature between 12 and 14°C. This wine can be enjoyed now, but will continue to develop in the cellar until at least 2031.

The Elegance and Tension of a White Puligny-Montrachet

The Estate

Founded in 1797 and located in Aloxe-Corton, the House of Louis Latour is a true institution within the Burgundy terroir. This family estate, now led by Florent Latour and Eléonore Latour who represent the twelfth generation, oversees a vineyard of approximately 48 hectares, of which 27 hectares are classified as Grand Cru. A pioneer in sustainable practices and certified organic, the estate also stands out for a unique feature in the region: it has its own in-house cooperage, ensuring perfect mastery over the ageing of its wines.

The Vineyard

This wine comes from a plot ideally located at the top of the slope, benefiting from excellent south-east exposure. The vines, averaging 35 years of age, thrive on soils rich in limestone and marl. This privileged geographical position at altitude allows for optimal grape ripening while preserving the typical minerality of the Puligny-Montrachet appellation.

The Vintage

The year 2024 was marked by particularly difficult conditions, resulting in an exceptionally low yield. Despite these production constraints and unpredictable weather, the estate was able to draw on its expertise to obtain grapes of excellent quality.

Winemaking and Aging

After manual harvesting and rigorous sorting, the grapes for the Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru "Les Chalumeaux" 2024 are pressed directly without skin maceration. Fermentation takes place traditionally in French oak barrels, accompanied by complete malolactic fermentation. The wine is then aged for 8 to 10 months in barrels (40% of which are new, medium-toast oak), crafted by the estate's own cooperage.

Grape Variety

This wine is made exclusively from Chardonnay.
