The estate
Founded in 1797 in Burgundy, the Louis Latour House is a historic family institution. Now led by Florent Latour as CEO, alongside Eléonore Latour, representing the twelfth generation, the estate carries on an ancestral expertise. The estate stands out for its independence and its commitment to sustainable winegrowing, certified ISO 14001. With the largest holdings of Grands Crus in the region, the House also boasts the unique distinction of crafting its own barrels through its in-house cooperage, ensuring the excellence of its cuvées.
The vineyard
This wine comes from the Volnay appellation, located on the steep slopes of the Côte de Beaune, benefiting from a favourable southeast-facing orientation. The vines, averaging 30 years of age, thrive on complex soils composed of clay and Bathonian limestone. The average yield of these plots is kept to 40 hectolitres per hectare, ensuring excellent concentration in the grapes.
The vintage
2023 stood out as a warm and generous year in Burgundy. A late heatwave in September allowed for rapid attainment of optimal ripeness and a high natural potential alcohol level. Despite these summer temperatures, the substantial crop load paradoxically helped preserve good acidity within the grapes.
Winemaking and aging
Following manual harvesting, this Volnay Village 2023 is vinified traditionally in open vats. The wine is then aged for 10 to 12 months in French oak barrels, 15% of which are new. These medium-toasted barrels come exclusively from the House's own cooperage.
Grape variety
100% Pinot Noir.
