Description
Tasting Notes and Serving Tips for the Méo-Camuzet Vosne-Romanée Village Domaine 2019
Tasting
Appearance
This wine reveals a colour ranging from bright purple to medium garnet. It is brilliant in the glass and expresses a lovely concentration of matter without appearing opaque.
Nose
The aromatic bouquet is particularly expressive and seductive. It opens with a vibrant blend of red and black fruit, reminiscent of raspberry, cherry, strawberry and pomegranate. This fruity core is enriched by delicate floral nuances of rose and violet, rounded out by touches of exotic spice, orange zest, sandalwood and subtly earthy notes.
Palate
Showing beautiful intensity, the palate skilfully combines power and finesse. The medium- to full-bodied structure rests on tannins that are both firm and wonderfully velvety. The whole is enlivened by a remarkable freshness and a very distinct mineral core, leading to a long, precise, slightly chalky and particularly mouth-watering finish.
Food and Wine Pairings
This cuvée pairs wonderfully with meats offering delicate yet deep flavours, such as roast duck, pigeon or veal loin. It will also enhance high-quality poultry served with mushrooms or root vegetables, as well as refined traditional dishes such as beef fillet with morels. To finish the meal, opt for moderately ripened soft cheeses, such as Brillat-Savarin.
Serving and Cellaring
Thanks to its lovely acidity, this Vosne-Romanée Village Domaine 2019 is approachable in its youth and can be enjoyed after three to four years in the cellar. However, it will gain in balance and depth over time, with the structure needed to age until around 2034.
The Elegance and Minerality of a Great Vosne-Romanée by Méo-Camuzet
The Estate
Located in the heart of Burgundy, in the prestigious Côte de Nuits, the estate covers approximately 17.2 hectares. Although the family's winemaking history dates back to the 17th century, the Méo-Camuzet brand was officially founded in 1981. Today, Jean-Nicolas Méo heads the estate, carrying forward a legacy of excellence. The domaine stands out for its demanding viticulture and its respectful approach to terroir, producing world-renowned wines that skilfully combine concentration, charm and remarkable precision.
The Vineyard
The grapes come from two plots covering approximately 1.4 hectares within the Vosne-Romanée appellation. The Les Barreaux climat, located halfway up the slope with a north-east exposure, sits on soil similar to that of neighbouring grand crus such as Richebourg, lending the wine a lovely freshness. Its vines were planted between the 1970s and 1980s. The Les Communes plot, in the centre of the village on more classic soils, gives the wine its maturity and silky character thanks to old vines dating back to the late 1950s.
The Vintage
2019 was marked by high summer temperatures, offset by relatively cool nights. This growing cycle produced a warm yet perfectly balanced vintage, preserving a magnificent expression of the terroirs. The main challenge lay in the simultaneous ripening of the vines, requiring great responsiveness and precise yield management to determine the ideal harvest date and preserve all the freshness of the berries.
Winemaking and Ageing
Following hand-harvesting and rigorous sorting, the berries destined for the Vosne-Romanée Village Domaine 2019 were fully de-stemmed. The low-intervention winemaking process begins with a cold pre-fermentation maceration, followed by fermentation in concrete tanks with gentle extraction. The juices from the two plots are vinified separately. The wine is then aged for an extended period in oak barrels, with 50% new wood, to refine its structure. The final blend is assembled before bottling by gravity, without fining or filtration.
