Description
A delicate and expressive Aloxe-Corton Premier Cru wine
The estate
Established in Puligny-Montrachet since 1635, the Leflaive family has perpetuated the tradition of great Burgundy wines by offering one of the finest expressions of Chardonnay in the world. At the head of a benchmark Burgundy estate, Olivier Leflaive has established himself as an emblematic figure of the Côte de Beaune. Olivier Leflaive was born in 1945 when his family owned a vineyard of some 20 hectares. After taking over the reins of the family business of the Leflaive estate, Olivier Leflaive founded Olivier Leflaive Frères in 1985, his own winemaking and ageing company, marking the birth of a "haute-couture" Burgundy wine merchant.
The vineyard
The estate’s vineyard has been gradually built up and today stretches across 17 hectares of vines placed on the greatest of Burgundy terroirs. The house also buys grapes from the best winegrowers of the Côte de Beaune. In total, Olivier Leflaive has 120 hectares of vines to produce great white wines in the beautiful appellations of Puligny-Montrachet, Chassagne-Montrachet and Meursault, as well as in Chablis and the Côte Chalonnaise.
The wine
"Les Fournières" 2020 from Olivier Leflaive is an Aloxe-Corton Premier Cru wine that stems from a 5.57-hectare vineyard placed between 220 and 230 metres of altitude on a gentle slope. Facing south/southeast, the vines, on average 50 years old, rest on clay-limestone soils made up importantly with silt and ferrous particles. The name of this area comes from its location near the remains of bricks and ancient chimneys that were used for cooking food.
Winemaking and ageing
Harvested by hand, the grapes were meticulously sorted before total destemming. Alcoholic fermentation in open vats with vatting for 20 days. Ageing was done for a period of 17 months (including 5 months of mass blending) in barrels (30% new).
Blend
Pinot Noir (100%)
