Bodega Pago de los Capellanes was founded in 1996 by the Rodero Villa family, who wished to produce fine Ribera del Duero wines.
The Bodega watches over a renowned vineyard in the heart of the Castilla y León region, which benefits from ideal weather conditions that ensure the optimal and gradual ripening of the grapes.
Fresh, refined and intensely aromatic, the wines by Pago de los Capellanes, recently announced as one of the world's top 100 wineries by the Wine & Spirits magazine, are the pure and delicate expression of the richness and potential of these fine Spanish terroirs.
This 2018 Reserva wine by Pago de los Capellanes is made from a meticulous selection of vineyards that are over 80 years old and are planted on stony soils composed of clay and limestone.
The year 2018 started with a cold and dry winter. The spring was marked by heavy rainfall which, combined with cool temperatures, delayed budburst and the vegetative cycle. The milder weather conditions during the summer months enabled the ripening phase to start again, thus making up for the delay. The vineyard is in excellent health and the grapes harvested at optimum ripeness are high quality.
The vinification and ageing
Cold pre-fermentation maceration for 3 days. Alcoholic fermentation is carried out in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks with selected wild yeasts and pumping over. Spontaneous malolactic fermentation, carried out in barrels, is accompanied by regular stirring of the lees. The wine is aged for 14 months in 225 litre French oak barrels.
A beautiful cherry red colour with ruby highlights.
Expressive, with ripe fruit fragrances (cherry, redcurrant, blackcurrant) and smoky, spicy notes from the ageing period.
Round and well-balanced, this wine seduces the palate due to its freshness and silky feel. The powerful palate harmoniously blends with fine tannins before leading to a full and aromatic finish.
This Ribera del Duero wine can be kept in the cellar until around 2028, enabling it to reveal its full aromatic range.
