Description
Characteristics and Tasting Tips for the Charmes-Chambertin Grand Cru 2022 by Albert Bichot
Tasting
Appearance
The Charmes-Chambertin 2022 reveals a deep, intense colour, characteristic of the Côte de Nuits grands crus crafted from Pinot Noir.
Nose
The nose reveals beautiful aromatic depth, blending red fruits such as raspberry and blackcurrant with floral notes of peony, rose and violet. A delicate touch of oak completes this palette, which is set to evolve over time towards more animal and spicy nuances.
Palate
On the palate, power and elegance respond to one another in harmony, offering a voluptuous texture and a long finish.
Food and wine pairing
The Charmes-Chambertin 2022 pairs beautifully with roasted or grilled red meats, such as beef fillet or veal chop. It also goes very well with fine poultry prepared in a sauce, game birds with rich, full-bodied jus, and firm cooked-pressed cheeses such as a well-matured Comté.
Serving and cellaring
The Charmes-Chambertin 2022 is ideally served at a temperature between 16 and 17 °C. Gentle aeration before tasting helps open up its bouquet. This Grand Cru has an ageing potential of seven to ten years or more, and can be kept until around 2032, or even beyond.
A Gevrey-Chambertin Grand Cru Balancing Power and Elegance
The estate
The House of Albert Bichot, founded in 1831 in Monthélie by Bernard Bichot, is now based in Beaune, the historic capital of Burgundy wines. A négociant house and owner of six estates spread over approximately 107 hectares, from the Chablis region to Beaujolais, it is run by Albéric Bichot, representing the sixth generation of the family, alongside Guillaume Deglise, Managing Director since 2019. Recognised for its commitment to sustainable and organic viticulture, the house favours low-intervention winemaking in service of the expression of Burgundy's terroirs.
The vineyard
The Charmes-Chambertin is one of the grands crus of Gevrey-Chambertin, located in the northern part of the Côte de Nuits. Its terroir rests on clay-limestone soils, enriched with silt and gravelly scree in the upper part of the plots, ensuring good drainage while preserving the freshness needed for even ripening of the Pinot Noir. This configuration, typical of the Côte de Nuits grands crus, promotes aromatic concentration and tannic structure conducive to ageing.
Winemaking and ageing
The Charmes-Chambertin 2022 is harvested by hand, with rigorous sorting of the grapes upon arrival at the winery. Fermentation maceration takes place in temperature-controlled wooden vats for 18 to 21 days, allowing precise extraction of tannins and aromas. Ageing then continues in oak barrels for 16 to 18 months, with 40 to 50% new oak, contributing a subtle oakiness that gradually melds into the structure of the wine.
Grape variety
This wine is made from Pinot Noir.
