Description
Characteristics and tasting notes for the Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru "Vide-Bourse" 2023 by Albert Bichot
Tasting
Appearance
The wine has a straw-yellow colour with golden highlights.
Nose
Elegant and complex, the nose combines aromas of citrus fruit and white flowers with subtle mineral touches. With time, notes of dried fruit, rare spices and green tea emerge.
Palate
On the palate, the wine is full-bodied, rich and intense, underpinned by subtle oak. Its balanced structure and delicate minerality lead to a beautifully aromatic, persistent finish.
Food and wine pairing
This wine is the ideal partner for fine fish and delicately prepared shellfish, as well as poultry and white meats, whether roasted or served in a creamy sauce. For a perfect match, try a chicken supreme with mushrooms and cream sauce.
Serving and cellaring
The Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru "Vide-Bourse" 2023 should be served between 12 and 14°C to fully appreciate its richness and finesse. It can be enjoyed young for its fruit or cellared until around 2030, or even longer in great vintages.
An elegant, mineral Chassagne-Montrachet Premier Cru by Albert Bichot
The estate
Founded in 1831 in Monthélie by Bernard Bichot, Maison Albert Bichot settled permanently in the heart of Beaune in 1912. Since 1996, Albéric Bichot has represented the sixth generation at the helm of this Burgundy house. With six exceptional estates stretching from the north to the south of Burgundy, Albert Bichot farms more than 107 hectares of vineyards. The house stands out for its conversion to organic farming, certified by Ecocert since 2014, and for its pioneering environmental commitment, notably through ocean-ageing experiments aboard the sailing cargo ship Grain de Sail II.
The vineyard
The "Vide-Bourse" climat lies in the south of the Côte de Beaune, within the prestigious Côte des Blancs. Nestled within Bâtard-Montrachet, alongside the old road known as the "chemin de Couches", this terroir was classified as a Premier Cru in 1974, joining the 21 other Premiers Crus of Chassagne-Montrachet. The terroir is characterised by free-draining clay-limestone soils scattered with small pebbles, and enjoys an ideal exposure for optimal ripening of the grapes.
Winemaking and ageing
The grapes for the Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru "Vide-Bourse" 2023 are harvested by hand and the bunches rigorously sorted. After slow, gentle pressing to preserve the fruit, the must ferments in French oak barrels, 30 to 35% of which are new, followed by 14 to 16 months of ageing on fine lees. This process gives this Burgundy wine remarkable aromatic complexity.
Grape variety
100% Chardonnay
