Description
Tasting characteristics and advice for the Vosne-Romanée 1er cru "Les Malconsorts" Domaine du Clos Frantin 2017 by Albert Bichot
Tasting
Nose
The bouquet is refined and complex, revealing aromas of red and black fruits such as cherry, raspberry, and blackcurrant. These fruity notes are accompanied by delicate oak and subtle spicy touches, complemented by nuances of leather that reflect the wine’s concentration.
Palate
The palate offers a silky, full texture, carried by an elegant tannic structure. The tannins, powerful yet velvety, coat the mouth without aggressiveness. The wine stands out for its remarkable density and its balance between power and finesse, lingering into a persistent finish with licorice notes.
Food and wine pairings
This Vosne-Romanée Premier Cru pairs harmoniously with finely prepared meats, whether roasted or in sauce: beef, lamb, pork, game, and duck. It also pairs elegantly with moderately strong cheeses. The ideal match remains beef tournedos Rossini.
Serving and cellaring
The Vosne-Romanée 1er cru "Les Malconsorts" Domaine du Clos Frantin 2017 is best served at a temperature between 16 and 17°C. This wine has excellent aging potential and can be cellared until around 2027, or even beyond.
A Vosne-Romanée Premier Cru from an exceptional terroir
The estate
Founded in 1831 by Bernard Bichot in Monthélie, the Albert Bichot House remains a family-owned business, now led by Albéric Bichot. Permanently established in Beaune in 1912, it farms more than 100 hectares of vineyards spread across six Burgundy estates: Clos Frantin, Château Gris, Pavillon, Adélie, Rochegrès, and Long-Depaquit. With 13 hectares of grands crus and 26 hectares of premiers crus, Albert Bichot has established itself as the leader in organic wines among the Beaune-based houses.
The vineyard
Domaine du Clos Frantin owns 1.76 hectares of the "Les Malconsorts" climat in Vosne-Romanée. This exceptional terroir rests on limestone rendzine soils and enjoys a particularly sunny exposure. The vines, with an average age of 35 to 40 years, benefit from a prime location: the climat borders La Tâche and lies less than 400 meters from Romanée-Conti and less than 600 meters from Richebourg. The name of the climat is said to originate from historical legal disputes between co-owners.
Winemaking and aging
The harvest is carried out by hand, followed by rigorous sorting at the estate. Fermentation and maceration take place over 18 to 21 days in temperature-controlled wooden vats. The Vosne-Romanée 1er cru "Les Malconsorts" Dom. du Clos Frantin 2017 is then aged for 16 to 17 months in oak barrels, 35 to 40% of which are new.
Grape variety
This red wine from Bourgogne is 100% Pinot Noir.
