Bouchard Père & Fils : Chambertin-Clos de Bèze Grand cru 2011

Burgundy - Chambertin-Clos de Bèze - Red - 13° Bouchard Père & Fils Bouchard Père & Fils 2011 E287/11
  • Parker : 92
It was during the 7th Century that the monks of the Abby of Bèze created the famous closed vineyard, today known as the most prestigious Grand Crus in the municipality of Gevrey-Chambertin. The robe of the 2011 Chambertin Grand Crus Clos de Bèze from the house of Bouchard Père & fils is garnet red with shades of purple and brown. The nose reveals a profound and complex bouquet, combining notes of black fruit, liquorice and slight animal hints. On the palate, this Chambertin Grand Cru is rich and generous, with refined tannins and an amazing length. Intense and beautifully fleshy, this Grand Cru is sumptuous.

Wine Advocate-Parker :
Tasted blind at the Burgundy 2011 horizontal tasting in Beaune. The Chambertin Clos de Bèze 2011 from Bouchard seems more introspective on the nose: cranberry, wild strawberry, a hint of tomato vine and woodland aromas. It takes some coaxing from the glass, eventually offering hints of Seville orange. The palate is full-bodied and dense. There is a lot of fruit intensity here with bold tannins and good depth, but unlike the Clos-de-Bèze from Rousseau it does not own the same level of precision and comes across a little aggressive by comparison. Still, time mellows us all.
