Description

Characteristics and tasting notes for the Chambertin-Clos de Bèze Grand Cru 2022 Bouchard Père & Fils

Tasting

Colour
A brilliant ruby hue gives way to darker nuances of black cherry, revealing lovely depth.

Nose
The bouquet reveals a rich aromatic palette, opening onto notes of ripe black and red fruits such as blackcurrant, redcurrant and raspberry. These are joined by touches of cherry stone, liquorice and spice, complemented by floral nuances of rose and violet, as well as aromas of undergrowth, sandalwood and a mineral undertone.

Palate
The palate is full-bodied and fleshy without any heaviness. The tannins are silky and refined, offering a harmonious balance between structure and fruity expression, extending into a long, lingering finish.

Food and wine pairing

This wine pairs perfectly with game meats, such as venison served with a wine sauce, or poultry such as pigeon. It also goes very well with roasted red meats (beef, lamb) as well as washed-rind aged cheeses, such as Époisses de Bourgogne.

Service and storage

To fully appreciate this grand cru, it is recommended to serve it at a temperature of between 16 and 18°C, decanting it 30 to 60 minutes before tasting. This wine, built for long ageing, will begin to reveal its full potential from around 2032 and can continue to develop favourably until around 2052.

The complexity and depth of a red grand cru from Burgundy

The estate

Founded in 1731 by Michel Bouchard, the house of Bouchard Père & Fils is a historic institution located in Beaune, at the heart of Burgundy. Over the centuries, the estate has built up a vast portfolio of vineyards spread across the region's most prestigious appellations. Since September 2022, the estate has been owned by Artémis Domaines, headed by the Pinault family. Committed to a strong environmental approach, the estate has recently completed its conversion to organic farming, thereby perpetuating its expertise while preserving the authentic expression of its terroirs.

The vineyard

The terroir of Chambertin-Clos de Bèze covers just over fifteen hectares at the northern end of the grand cru zone in the Côte de Nuits. Situated at an altitude of between 275 and 300 metres, the vines benefit from a moderate east-facing slope. The soils are based on Bajocian limestone, with a high proportion of stones in the upper section and more clay further down, offering favourable conditions for growing vines.

The vintage

The year 2022 was marked by particularly hot and dry weather conditions, at times reminiscent of temperatures in the south of France. These episodes of heat and water shortage put the vine's growth cycle to the test. However, rigorous vineyard management helped preserve the freshness of the berries in the face of this summer stress.

Winemaking and ageing

In crafting this cru, the technical team made precise strategic decisions regarding the harvest date and sorting methods. The management of fermentation was carefully adapted to meet the climatic challenges of the year, thereby allowing the full typicity of the terroir to be revealed.
