Description

A powerful and refined Pommard Premier Cru

The estate

Founded in 1731 in Beaune, Bouchard Père & Fils is one of the oldest estates in Burgundy. For nearly 3 centuries, 9 generations have succeeded one another with the ambition of creating an exceptional estate in Burgundy.

Patiently built up over the years, the vineyards of the Bouchard Père et Fils estate currently spread across 130 hectares of vines. Combining prestigious appellations with exceptional plots of land, the Bouchard Père & Fils vineyard enjoys a unique wine heritage.

The vineyard

Bouchard Père & Fils' "Rugiens" Domaine 2011 is a Pommard 1er cru wine made from a 0.42-hectare vineyard that was acquired in 1853. One of the most famous climates in Burgundy, "Les Rugiens" was classified as "tête de cuvée" (a very fine wine) in 1855 by Dr Lavalle, a doctor, naturalist and author of one of the most influential books that led to the first classification of Burgundy wines.

Vinification and ageing

Once the grapes have been harvested by hand and sorted, the grapes are partially or totally destemmed, depending on the vintage. Alcoholic fermentation is carried out in small containers with gentle pressing. Vatting for 12 to 15 days depending on the vintage. The wine is aged for 10 to 18 months in French oak barrels (60 to 85% of which are new) in the Bastion cellars of the old Château de Beaune.

The blend

Pinot Noir (100%).
