Description
Characteristics and Tasting Notes for the Champagne Huré Frères 4 Éléments Pinot Noir Extra Brut 2019
Tasting Notes
Appearance
The colour reveals an intense straw yellow hue, enhanced by brilliant copper and golden highlights, along with a remarkably fine effervescence.
Nose
The aromatic bouquet is complex and evolving. It exhales scents of red fruits such as raspberry and cherry, intertwined with notes of kumquat and red apple. The whole is enriched by indulgent pastry touches reminiscent of buttery brioche, salted caramel and cinnamon, all underscored by a deep minerality evoking wet stone.
Palate
Exceptionally refined, the palate offers a creamy, full-bodied texture, perfectly balanced by a vibrant tension. The fruity and citrus flavours stretch elegantly towards a lingering finish, marked by saline minerality and subtle notes of autolysis.
Food and Wine Pairings
This great blanc de noirs pairs beautifully with refined dishes such as grilled lobster, sweetbreads or fine fish. It also brilliantly accompanies white meats, poultry, as well as characterful mature cheeses such as Comté or Époisses.
Serving and Cellaring
For an optimal tasting experience, it is recommended to serve this wine at a temperature between 10 and 12°C. Using a tulip-shaped glass or a wide white wine glass will allow its full aromatic complexity to be expressed.
The Elegance and Richness of a Montagne de Reims Terroir
The Estate
The history of the house began in the 1960s, but it was in 1971 that the Champagne Huré Frères brand was officially born. Located in Ludes, at the heart of the Montagne de Reims in Champagne, this family estate spans around ten hectares. Now run by brothers François and Pierre Huré, the property stands out for its approach combining tradition and experimentation, with the use of biodynamic methods and a solera system. Their philosophy is based on a perfect coherence between vineyard work and minimal-intervention winemaking.
The Vineyard
This Extra Brut cuvée comes exclusively from the La Perthe lieu-dit, a premier cru–classified plot located in the commune of Ludes. This distinctive terroir rests on clay-sandy soil covering a subsoil of chalk and limestone, providing ideal drainage. The estate favours environmentally friendly farming practices, marked by the abandonment of herbicides since 2006 and the integration of biodynamic methods, thereby fostering living soils and a natural balance of the vine.
The Vintage
The year 2019 was marked by extreme weather conditions. After particularly warm temperatures at the end of winter, the vineyard suffered frost episodes in April. The summer season was then punctuated by two intense heatwaves in July, with peaks reaching 43°C. Despite these climatic challenges, the harvested grapes achieved optimal ripeness while retaining lovely freshness.
Winemaking and Aging
The 4 Éléments Pinot Noir Extra Brut 2019 cuvée undergoes very precise plot-by-plot vinification. Fermentation and aging take place in 600-litre demi-muids over eighteen months. To preserve the wine's tension and vibrancy, malolactic fermentation is deliberately blocked. The wine is then bottled under natural cork for its second fermentation and aging on lees, before being disgorged in April 2025.
