James Suckling

Stuart Pigott

A concentrated and sophisticated Blanc de Noirs that’s also properly dry. I love the ripe pear, freshly baked croissant and delicate spice aromas that are married to chalky minerality on the well structured palate. Very long, straight and pure finish. A cuvée of wines from the sites Les Chalois, Les Champs de Huit Jours, Les Baraquines and Le Bas des Chalois based on the 2018 vintage. Disgorged on the 8th December and with 7.6 g/l dosage. Drink now.

Wine Enthusiast

Anna-Christina Cabrales

Delicately perfumed with freshly cut apple, white rose, and a hint of ocean spray, the nose is clean and quietly expressive. The palate shows lovely texture, energized by bright acidity that lifts the fruit with ease. Gentle chalkiness and saline notes linger on the finish, making it effortlessly enjoyable on its own.

Description

Characteristics and Tasting Notes of Blanc de Pinot Noir Mailly Grand Cru

Tasting

Nose
The bouquet reveals beautiful aromatic complexity, combining the delicate freshness of citrus fruits with riper notes of roasted exotic fruits and wheat. Spicy and cocoa nuances complete this refined aromatic palette.

Palate
The attack is creamy with perfectly controlled liveliness. The palate displays a graceful balance between velvety maturity and finely spiced structure, extending into a particularly thirst-quenching saline finish.

Food and Wine Pairings

This champagne is perfect as part of a dinner aperitif and pairs ideally with foie gras in all its forms. It also enhances sautéed seafood, scallops with fleur de sel, roasted turbot with beurre blanc, as well as delicate poultry and cheeses.

An exceptional Blanc de Noirs champagne from the Montagne de Reims

The estate

Located in the heart of the Montagne de Reims, the Champagne Mailly Grand Cru House stands out both for its terroir, which imparts finesse and balance to its cuvées, and for its contemporary history.

The year 1929 marks the creation of the Société de Producteurs de Mailly Champagne, established to face the economic crisis following the First World War. The union of several winegrowers aimed to produce highly refined cuvées that showcase this terroir, classified as Grand Cru in 1920.

Fresh and beautifully mineral, the wines from the Champagne Mailly Grand Cru House are renowned for their balance, distinctive style, and great elegance.

The vineyard

Mailly Grand Cru cares for a 70-hectare terroir divided into more than 600 plots. Eighty winegrowers devote meticulous attention to this exceptional Champagne terroir.

The cuvée

The "Blanc de Pinot Noir" cuvée is crafted from grapes sourced from identified plots, mostly on a northern slope, benefiting from the exceptional Montagne du Nord terroir, the only Grand Cru in this privileged area of Champagne.

Winemaking and Aging

Manual harvesting is followed by vinification of the first press exclusively in parcel-based vats and barrels. Reserve wines are matured in large oak casks using the solera method, before traditional aging on lees in the estate’s chalk cellars. The dosage of this champagne Blanc de Noirs is 8g/L
