Description
Characteristics and tasting notes of Pommery's Apanage Rosé 1874
Tasting
Appearance
A luminous pale pink hue adorned with coral highlights, enhanced by a remarkably fine and persistent effervescence.
Nose
The aromatic bouquet opens with scents of small red fruits such as fresh raspberry, wild strawberry and redcurrant, underscored by the liveliness of pink grapefruit and Granny Smith apple. Delicate floral touches reminiscent of peony and old rose perfectly round out this remarkably subtle ensemble.
Palate
The attack offers a texture that is both creamy and silky, carried by a beautiful energy. The palate unfolds aromas of crisp red fruits, enhanced by subtle notes of vanilla and spices. The experience concludes with a harmonious finish, marked by a pleasant salinity and great freshness.
Food and wine pairings
This cuvée pairs wonderfully with fresh fruit desserts, particularly those based on lightly sweetened red fruits. It also brilliantly accompanies seafood, shellfish, as well as charcuterie boards combining fresh cheeses, cured meats and summer appetisers.
A rosé champagne combining freshness, sensuality and structure
The estate
Founded in 1858 in Reims, the famous brand experienced a meteoric rise under the visionary leadership of Madame Pommery. A pioneer, she notably invented the brut style and had majestic cellars dug into the Gallo-Roman chalk pits, now listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The estate stands out for its strong commitment to sustainable viticulture and biodiversity. Today, the destiny of this illustrious Champagne House lies in the hands of Nathalie Vranken, General Manager of Maison Pommery & Associés, who carries on this legacy of excellence and innovation.
The vineyard
The grapes come mainly from the renowned Champagne terroirs of the Montagne de Reims and the Grande Vallée de la Marne. The estate places paramount importance on respect for the environment, applying certified sustainable viticulture methods, including cover cropping between rows and the elimination of herbicides to promote biodiversity.
The blend
This cuvée is the result of a meticulous marriage between the 2017, 2018 and 2019 harvests. The complexity and aromatic continuity of this wine are ensured by the integration of a perpetual reserve, as well as the addition of still red wines from the prestigious terroirs of Bouzy and Verzenay.
Winemaking and aging
The Apanage Rosé 1874 benefits from a long ageing process in the depths of the historic chalk pits of the Butte Saint-Nicaise. This prolonged rest under optimal natural conditions allows the wine to develop all its subtlety and aromatic complexity before disgorgement.
Grape varieties
This blend brings together the tension of Chardonnay, the structure of Pinot Noir and the indulgence of Meunier.
