A refined Gevrey-Chambertin from Burgundy old vines
The estate
Established in 1720 by Edme Champy, Champy remains the oldest Burgundy trading house. Located in the heart of Beaune in listed historic buildings, it cultivates approximately 21 hectares across renowned appellations such as Pommard, Beaune, Clos de Vougeot and Morey-Saint-Denis. Acquired by the AdVini group in 2016, it combines its status as a grower-winemaker and merchant-ager.
The vineyard
This Gevrey-Chambertin comes from old vines planted in 1959 in the "lieux-dits" of Les Corvées. The old vines flourish on a clay-limestone terroir characteristic of the appellation.
The vintage
The 2023 vintage began with late budburst at the end of March for Chardonnay and early April for Pinot Noir. Flowering took place around Pentecost, with mid-flowering in early June. Veraison occurred at the end of July. Ripening continued steadily during the summer before a cooling period at the end of August slowed down maturity while preserving acidity. Disease pressure was generally contained. Abundant harvests and favorable weather conditions in early September resulted in high quality potential.
Winemaking and aging
The vinification of this 2023 Gevrey-Chambertin "Vieilles Vignes" follows a traditional approach. Aging takes place in oak barrels, 25% of which are new.
Grape variety
This Burgundy wine is 100% Pinot Noir.
