An intense, structured and bold fine white wine from Graves

The estate

Founded in 1966, Château de Chantegrive is part of the Union des Grands Crus de Bordeaux. This family-owned estate in the Graves region is run with the utmost passion and precision and in a sustainable manner. Caroline 2020 is the white wine of Château de Chantegrive.

The vineyard

Caroline of Château de Chantegrive is a Graves wine that stems from a 15-hectare vineyard. The vines are 30 years old on average and are planted on soils composed of gravel, pebbles, fine sand, but also clay and limestone.

The vintage

Although 2017 will be remembered for the frosts at the end of April, it is proving to be an excellent vintage for Bordeaux white wines. And Château de Chantegrive's 2017 Caroline Cuvée is undoubtedly the perfect example. The white vines, which were spared by the frost, were able to reach perfect ripeness levels right up to the harvest which began on August 27th. Sacrificing yields led to high-quality grapes, an exceptionally high level that has rarely been reached before. Freshness, aromatic power, perfect balance between sugar and acidity, all the conditions led to the production of a great wine.

Vinification and ageing

Cold skin maceration and cold pre-fermentation stabulation for 3 weeks. Fermentation and ageing on fine lees in French oak barrels (50% new) for 9 months with regular stirring of the lees.

The blend

Sauvignon Blanc (50%)

Semillon (45%)

Sauvignon gris (5%).

Wine Advocate-Parker :
The 2017 Cuvée Caroline is slightly mute to begin, slowly giving lemon meringue pie, spiced apples and Bosc pears with hints of pie crust and almonds. The palate is medium-bodied, clean, crisp and fresh with a spicy finish.
