Description

Characteristics and Tasting Notes for the Auxey-Duresses 2022 Comte Armand

Tasting

Colour
Displaying a brilliant, luminous ruby red colour, this wine shows moderate intensity and great clarity.

Nose
The nose opens with generous aromas of ripe dark fruit, such as blackberry and black cherry, delicately enhanced by floral notes of violet. With aeration, subtle nuances of liquorice, spice and earth emerge, revealing the complexity of its terroir.

Palate
The attack is smooth and refined, giving way to a rich mid-palate blending red and dark fruit flavours with spicy touches. The tannins are firm yet silky, perfectly supported by a lovely acidity that brings freshness and tension. The remarkably long finish is underscored by an elegant minerality.

Food and Wine Pairing

This red wine pairs beautifully with white meats such as herb-roasted poultry, veal or rack of lamb. It also perfectly accompanies fine charcuterie, rabbit stew, mushroom risotto or soft-ripened cheeses such as Brie and Camembert.

Service and Storage

To fully appreciate this Auxey-Duresses 2022, it is recommended to serve it at a temperature of between 15 and 16°C, taking care to let it breathe in the glass for a few minutes or decant it. Approachable in its youth, this wine has a fine structure that will allow it to evolve favourably in the cellar until around 2042.

Other Characteristics

Despite a vintage generally marked by high pH levels, this wine stands out for its remarkably preserved acidity, offering a freshness that is essential to its balance and ageing potential.

The Elegance and Complexity of a Great Burgundy Wine by Comte Armand

The Estate

Located in Pommard, at the heart of Burgundy, the Domaine du Comte Armand is a historic reference. It was in 1828 that the estate took its current form when it passed into the family of the Comte Armand, who remains its owner to this day. Now technically directed by Jane Eyre, this domain of around ten hectares stands out for its pioneering commitment to organic and biodynamic viticulture. It is renowned worldwide for its wines of great elegance, expressing the complexity of their terroirs with purity.

The Vineyard

The Auxey-Duresses plots benefit from a privileged position at altitude, on slopes facing east and south-east. The deeply rooted vines thrive on complex soils composed of marl, clay and limestone. The vineyard is managed according to strict organic and biodynamic principles, favouring mechanical soil work, the use of plant-based preparations and adherence to lunar cycles to encourage biodiversity.

The Vintage

The year was marked by extreme weather conditions, with a cold winter followed by a spring with fluctuating temperatures. The summer proved to be one of the hottest and driest on record, but timely rainfall at the end of June and the end of August allowed the vines to overcome water stress. This strategic rain ensured optimal berry ripening, leading to an early harvest under sunny skies.

Winemaking and Aging

The creation of this Auxey-Duresses 2022 relies on meticulous hand-harvesting, carried out at optimal phenolic ripeness. In the cellar, the philosophy favours elegance over brutal extraction, with careful destemming that preserves the berries and an extended maceration. The wine is then aged in oak barrels, lending subtle spicy notes while respecting the brightness of the fruit and the identity of the terroir.
