2008 Corton Grand Cru, Pinot Noir, Burgundy.
The quality Pinot Noir vineyard from which this wine is produced enjoys a good East orientation and a mainly calcareous-clay soil. The 2008 Corton Grand Cru Clos du Roi from Domaine de la Pousse d'Or is characterised by fine and elegant tannins, as well as a pleasant energy. The contrasted year resulted in wonderful and complex wines beautifully combining strength and finesse. The 2008 Corton Grand Cru Clos du Roi of Domaine de la Pousse d'Or was aged on lees in oak barrels (30% new-ageing barrels) for 18 months. On the nose, the bouquet is dominated by spices and clove pepper. The palate is dense with a good structure.
Wine Advocate-Parker :
Dark cherry, rhubarb, and red currant as well as hints of game inform the high-toned nose and tartly invigorating palate of Landanger's 2008 Corton Clos Du Roi, which - tasted from tank - offers stark contrast with its sibling from the Bressandes. Alkaline, crushed stone, salt, and iodine-like mineral notes add piquancy to a long finish whose primary juiciness helps ward off austerity. I would anticipate 12-15 years of interest here.
