Decanter

This admirable flagship is a genuine ‘cuvée ronde’ that blends grapes from all parts of the village to mirror the essence of Puligny. The domaine owns seven ouvrées, and they augment the volume with exchanges for their premier cru grapes. Lieux-dits include Derrière la Velle and Les Levrons (domaine) and La Rue aux Vaches and Voittes (exchange). The result has a bright lemony fruit with a suggestion of ripe nectarine and hazelnut. The fresh acidity balances this forward fruit to deliver a wine that will drink well young but is also suited to mid-term cellaring.

The Burgundian style of a great white signed by Jean Chartron

The estate

Founded in 1859 by Jean-Edouard Dupard, former cooper and mayor of Puligny-Montrachet, the Domaine Jean Chartron cultivates 14.5 hectares across 23 Burgundian appellations. Renowned for its expertise in Premier Cru and Grand Cru White wines, the estate is managed by Jean-Michel and Anne-Laure Chartron, representing the fifth generation of the family.

The vineyard

This Puligny-Montrachet wine comes from vines planted on the clay-limestone soils typical of the appellation, giving the wine a sought-after minerality among the best White wines from Bourgogne.

Winemaking and aging

This Puligny-Montrachet Village is vinified entirely in oak barrels, 20% new and 80% aged 1 to 5 years. Fine lees aging lasts 10 months in barrel, complemented by 4 months in tank to refine the wine's balance.

Grape variety

100% Chardonnay.
