Description
Characteristics and Tasting Tips for Chablis 1er cru "Montmains" 2022 by Jean-Marc Brocard
Tasting
Appearance
Clear and brilliant, the wine reveals a pale gold hue enhanced by delicate green and silver highlights.
Nose
The bouquet opens with citrus notes reminiscent of lemon and grapefruit, mingled with touches of white flowers such as acacia. Subtle hints of crisp apple and aniseed intertwine with a characteristic flinty minerality.
Palate
On the palate, this white wine offers a slightly rounded texture, perfectly balanced by lively, refreshing acidity. Its dense, lemony structure stretches into a long, elegant and deeply saline finish.
Food and wine pairing
This wine pairs beautifully with white fish, seafood or shellfish, whether simply grilled or served with a lightly creamy sauce. It also elevates a mushroom risotto, as well as characterful cheeses such as Comté or goat's cheese.
Serving and cellaring
To enjoy Chablis 1er cru "Montmains" 2022 at its best, serve it at a temperature between 11 and 12°C. This wine can be enjoyed now, but will continue to develop favourably until around 2028.
The Floral Elegance and Mineral Purity of a Chablis Premier Cru
The estate
Founded in 1974 in Préhy, in the heart of Burgundy, the Jean-Marc Brocard winery is a leading name in its appellation. First introduced to viticulture by his in-laws, Jean-Marc Brocard built a family estate that now spans nearly 200 hectares. Now run by his son, Julien Brocard, the property stands out for its deep commitment to the environment, with a significant share of its vineyards certified organic and biodynamic. The estate skilfully combines respect for living ecosystems with technological innovation to reveal the authenticity of its terroirs.
The vineyard
The Montmains climat, classified as a Premier Cru, lies on the left bank of the Serein, within the Chablis appellation. Facing south-east, the vines, around thirty years old, thrive on Kimmeridgian marl soils rich in clay, limestone and marine fossils. This singular terroir, farmed with great attention to soil life and the natural prevention of disease, gives the wine its typical structure and minerality.
The vintage
2022 was marked by generous sunshine and, at times, high summer temperatures. Despite the heat, the weather conditions allowed the grapes to reach fine ripeness while retaining essential freshness, thus avoiding any overripeness.
Winemaking and ageing
In the cellar, the grapes are received by gravity to preserve their integrity. Chablis 1er cru "Montmains" 2022 is fermented with indigenous yeasts under strict temperature control between 18 and 20°C, followed by full malolactic fermentation. The wine is then aged on fine lees for around fourteen months, 70% in oak foudres and 30% in stainless steel tanks, keeping intervention to a minimum so that the terroir can express itself fully.
