The family estate of La Bastide Blanche is poised in an idyllic setting on the shores of the Mediterranean Sea in Sainte-Anne-de-Castellet. Since 1972, this estate has been producing fine wines in the Bandol appellation.
Dedicated to nature and protecting it, La Bastide Blanche produces organic wines. The vineyard covers an area of 50 hectares, where the typical soils of the appellation (red clay, clay-limestone and gravelly soils) contribute to the signature style of these wines, which are recognised for their high quality and their great ageing potential.
The 2015 Bandol Cuvée Estagnol red wine by Domaine de La Bastide Blanche stems from a 1.5-hectare vineyard where the vines are 39 years old on average.
Vinification and ageing
The grapes are harvested by hand and 100% destemmed. The 22-day vatting period is carried out with multiple punchings of the cap to extract colour, tannins and aromatic richness. No yeast is added during the vinification. Following malolactic fermentation in tuns, the wine is aged for 18 months in tuns of 13 to 80 hl.
Dense and deep, the colour is purple.
Spicy, the nose presents aromas of blond tobacco, pepper and subtle notes of liquorice.
The sun-drenched and dense palate blends intense notes of liquorice, black olives and blackberries. Powerful, this wine showcases its aromatic complexity and great ageing potential.
For an optimal tasting, decant three hours before serving at 15-16°C.
Food and wine pairing
The 2015 Bandol Cuvée Estagnol red wine by Domaine de La Bastide Blanche will complement a beef steak or a wild boar tenderloin.
