Description
Tasting characteristics and recommendations for the Chablis Premier Cru “Beauroy” 2018 from La Chablisienne
Tasting
Appearance
The color displays a pale yellow hue with golden and green highlights, clear and brilliant.
Nose
The nose is initially discreet and elegant, then, with aeration, reveals remarkable minerality accompanied by flinty notes. Aromas of white fruit come through with finesse—citrus, green apple and pear—enhanced by delicate floral touches of white blossoms.
Palate
The attack is harmonious and dense, with a refined texture marked by distinct salinity and minerality. The palate reveals ripe yellow fruits supported by fresh, energetic acidity. The finish lingers at length, underscoring the mineral signature characteristic of the Kimmeridgian terroir.
Food and wine pairings
This Chablis 2018 is an ideal match for oysters and seafood, as well as grilled or simply prepared shellfish. It also pairs beautifully with poached white fish or fish meunière, herb-roasted poultry, and fresh, mild soft cheeses.
Serving and cellaring
It is recommended to serve this Chablis 2018 between 10 and 12°C to fully appreciate its qualities.
A Chablis 2018 true to the typical minerality of Burgundy
The estate
Founded on May 1, 1923 under the impetus of Abbé Balitrand, La Chablisienne is now led by Damien Leclerc, who has served as Managing Director since 2009. This cooperative winery brings together around 250 to 300 member winegrowers and oversees approximately 1,250 hectares of vineyards, representing nearly a quarter of the total production of the Chablis appellation. Recognized for its commitment to sustainable viticulture, La Chablisienne received, in 2024, the International Wine and Spirit Competition trophy for White Wine Producer. The cooperative also stands out for its 1999 acquisition of the prestigious Château Grenouilles, an emblematic Grand Cru of the region.
The vineyard
This Chablis comes from plots located in the heart of the appellation, on clay-limestone soils made up of Kimmeridgian marls dating back to the Jurassic. These geological formations, rich in fossils of ancient oysters, give the wine its distinctive minerality. The region’s semi-continental climate, with cold winters and dry summers, contributes to the wines of Burgundy expressing precise aromatics and pronounced acidity.
The vintage
The 2018 vintage proved particularly generous for the Chablis region. After an exceptionally wet winter that replenished water reserves, spring saw rapid vine growth despite a few frost threats in May. Summer was marked by high temperatures and pronounced drought from July to September, with sunshine well above seasonal averages. These conditions allowed for optimal ripening of the grapes, harvested in favorable weather, yielding fruit of exceptional sanitary quality and fine aromatic concentration.
Winemaking and aging
The grapes for this Chablis 2018 were vinified according to the cooperative’s traditional methods, which receives the musts directly after pressing. Fermentation took place in temperature-controlled stainless-steel tanks, preserving the wine’s aromatic freshness and mineral purity. Aging for around twelve months in steel tanks maintained the terroir’s straightforward expression without oak influence, encouraging the lively character and minerality typical of the appellation.
