Characteristics and tasting tips for the Saint-Aubin Village 2018 from Leroy
Tasting
Appearance
The wine displays a brilliant golden yellow with luminous highlights.
Nose
On opening, the nose reveals aromas of white fruits and white flowers. After aeration, tropical and buttery notes emerge, accompanied by hints of spice.
Palate
On the palate, this wine captivates with its fine and enveloping texture, remarkably smooth and unctuous. The acidity remains lively without being sharp, bringing freshness to a velvety and creamy ensemble. Juicy white fruit aromas dominate, complemented by sweet tropical flavors and toasted nuts. Mineral, saline and chalky notes lead to a persistent and lingering finish.
Food and wine pairing
This Saint-Aubin Village 2018 pairs harmoniously with firm-fleshed fish, grilled or steamed shellfish. It also elegantly accompanies a rich poultry dish or oven-baked sea bream.
Serving
To fully appreciate this Saint-Aubin Village 2018, it is recommended to serve it at a temperature between 12 and 14°C.
An exceptional Saint-Aubin by Maison Leroy
The estate
François Leroy, owner of vineyards in Auxey-Duresses and Musigny among others, founded the négociant house Leroy in 1868. His son Joseph, and a few years later his grandson Henri, gradually developed the estate, notably by creating a branch dedicated to producing liqueurs and eaux-de-vie. In 1942, Henri Leroy acquired half of the prestigious Romanée-Conti terroir. Following his passing, his younger daughter Lalou Bize-Leroy joined the Leroy estate in 1955 and became co-manager of the Domaine de la Romanée-Conti, alongside Aubert de Villaine, between 1974 and 1992.
The vineyard
Saint-Aubin is a wine-producing village located in the southern part of the Côte de Beaune, between Chassagne-Montrachet and Puligny-Montrachet. This appellation, recognized in 1937, offers a superbly overlooked alternative to the wines of its two famous neighbors. The Chardonnay vines are grown on white clay soils with a high limestone content, on southeast and south-facing slopes, at an altitude of 300 to 350 meters.
The vintage
The 2018 vintage in Burgundy was marked by exceptional conditions. A wet winter and a cool spring preceded a hot and dry summer, producing ideal ripening conditions. For the Chardonnay of Saint-Aubin specifically, the grape variety proved particularly resistant to pest pressures and ripened perfectly, producing rich and opulent wines while retaining the characteristic freshness of the appellation.
