The expression of a great Chardonnay in IGP Ardèche by Louis Latour
The estate
Officially founded in 1797 in Aloxe-Corton, Maison Louis Latour is a historic institution. Today led by Florent Latour, representing the eleventh generation, this family-owned brand owns a 48-hectare estate in Burgundy. A true pioneer, the property extended its expertise to the Rhône Valley and the Ardèche as early as 1979. The only Burgundian house to own its own cooperage, it stands out for its sustainable approach and its ability to combine tradition and innovation to reveal great terroirs.
The vineyard
The grapes come from carefully selected plots within the IGP Ardèche appellation. The vines, averaging around twenty years old, thrive on hillsides located at approximately 270 metres altitude. They benefit from a rich subsoil composed of clay and chalk, similar to the great white terroirs of Burgundy. Yields are kept under control at around 45 hl/ha, and the harvest is carried out mechanically.
Winemaking and ageing
Crafted according to traditional Burgundian methods, the Grand Ardèche Chardonnay 2023 sees its musts poured directly into French oak barrels. The classic fermentation is accompanied by malolactic fermentation carried out at 100%. The wine then benefits from ageing of at least 10 months in barrels (including 25% new barrels with medium toast), all sourced from the house's own cooperage.
