Description
Characteristics and tasting notes of the Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru "Sous le Puits" 2019 by Louis Latour
Tasting
Appearance
This wine reveals a beautiful pale yellow colour, adorned with bright, golden reflections.
Nose
The aromatic bouquet opens with scents of yellow fruits and mango, enhanced by a delicate peppery touch. Nuances of white flowers and citrus, along with ageing notes such as vanilla, brioche and hazelnut, add complexity to the whole, on an elegant mineral background.
Palate
The attack is both ample and imbued with freshness. The palate reveals indulgent flavours of marzipan, butter and toasted notes, perfectly balanced by beautiful tension. The finish stretches out at length on a saline and chalky minerality.
Food and wine pairings
This cuvée pairs wonderfully with Bresse poultry or white meats served with a cream sauce. It also enhances foie gras, noble fish such as salmon with fennel and lemon, shellfish, as well as cooked-curd cheeses.
Serving and cellaring
To fully appreciate this Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru "Sous le Puits" 2019, it is recommended to serve it at a temperature between 12 and 14°C. With fine potential, it can be kept in the cellar and enjoyed until around 2026.
The elegance of a great Burgundy Chardonnay by Louis Latour
The estate
Founded in 1797, the Louis Latour House is a true institution in Burgundy. Still an independent family-owned company, this renowned brand is today led by Florent Latour. The estate spans around 48 hectares in the Côte d'Or, a large part of which is classified as Grand Cru, notably on the hill of Corton. Based in Beaune and Aloxe-Corton, the property stands out for its commitment to sustainable viticulture certified HVE and for owning its own cooperage, ensuring perfect mastery of the ageing of its wines.
The vineyard
This wine comes from the Puligny-Montrachet appellation, more precisely from the "Sous le Puits" climat. Located at the top of the slope on the hill of Blagny, just above "La Garenne", this terroir benefits from an excellent south-easterly exposure. The vines, averaging 35 years old, thrive on clay-limestone soils. The estate practises meticulous viticulture there with exclusively manual harvests and a controlled yield of around 40 hl/ha, thus promoting the concentration of the grapes.
The vintage
The year 2019 is characterised by mild weather conditions, offering a sunny vintage of very fine maturity. Despite this heat, the vegetative cycle allowed the berries to retain excellent acidity, essential to the balance and freshness of the region's great white wines.
Winemaking and ageing
The making of the Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru "Sous le Puits" 2019 begins with traditional fermentation carried out in oak barrels, accompanied by a full malolactic fermentation. The wine then benefits from ageing for a period of 8 to 10 months. This process takes place in medium-toast French oak barrels, 50% of which are new, all produced by the House's own cooperage.
Grape variety
This cuvée is made from 100% Chardonnay.
