Description

The Elegance of a Chambolle-Musigny Premier Cru from the Côte de Nuits, Crafted by Méo-Camuzet

The Estate

Based in Vosne-Romanée, in Burgundy, Méo-Camuzet is a family-owned estate descended from the Méo and Camuzet lineages. It is the heir to Étienne Camuzet, deputy for the Côte-d'Or, and to the expertise of Henri Jayer. Today, Jean-Nicolas Méo runs the estate and the négociant house. The latter, Méo-Camuzet Frère & Sœurs, was founded in the early 2000s. It shares the estate's family ownership and works with grapes purchased from partner growers. It applies the same methods as the estate in order to extend its style.

The Vineyard

The Chambolle-Musigny 1er cru Méo-Camuzet Frère & Soeurs 2024 comes from the Chambolle-Musigny appellation, in the Côte de Nuits, close to Vosne-Romanée. The red wines here are made from Pinot Noir. The grapes come from growers who partner with the négociant house. They are selected from several Chambolle premiers crus for their complementarity.

The Vintage

2024 was a trying year. A mild, well-watered autumn and winter were followed by a March and April that continued this trend. Downy mildew returned very early in the season, with bunches affected before flowering, and the harvest was reduced as a result. Conditions improved markedly at harvest time, with northerly winds, fine, cool weather and grapes that were generally healthy. Harvesting began in mid-September. Sorting was necessary because of pockets of rot linked to the August rains and pink-tinged grapes.

Vinification and Ageing

For the Chambolle-Musigny 1er cru Méo-Camuzet Frère & Soeurs 2024, the house applies the estate's protocols, with minimal-intervention winemaking. The harvest is hand-picked and sorted on a sorting table. The grapes then undergo a cold maceration before a fermentation that starts naturally in concrete vats. Pumping over is carried out at the start of fermentation, followed by punching down at the end of maceration. The use of sulphur, chaptalisation and acidification is kept to a minimum. Ageing takes place in oak barrels, with a proportion of new oak suited to the appellation. The barrels are blended in tank before bottling, which is carried out by gravity and without filtration.
