Description
Characteristics and Tasting Tips for the Chambolle-Musigny "Village" Méo-Camuzet Frère & Soeurs 2023
Tasting
Colour
This wine displays a beautiful red colour.
Nose
The bouquet is remarkably delicate, opening with elegant floral notes led by violet. It then reveals clear aromas of small red fruits such as raspberry, strawberry and cherry.
Palate
The palate stands out for its silky, airy texture, supported by fine, noble tannins. The balance is perfect between beautifully ripe fruit and remarkable freshness. The finish offers a long aromatic persistence with touches of stone fruit.
Food and Wine Pairing
This red wine pairs wonderfully with delicate, refined dishes. It will ideally accompany tender poultry, braised duck or delicate meats such as a lamb sauté. Vegetarian dishes such as roasted butternut squash or mushroom pasta also pair very well with it, as do creamy cheeses such as Brillat-Savarin.
Serving and Cellaring
For optimal enjoyment, we recommend serving this Chambolle-Musigny "Village" Méo-Camuzet Frère & Soeurs 2023 at 12 to 14°C when young, and at around 15 to 16°C after a few years in the cellar. It can be enjoyed now but will continue to improve, and can be drunk until around 2035.
Other Characteristics
To preserve the integrity of its aromas and structure, this wine is bottled without prior fining or filtration.
The Elegance of Pinot Noir at the Heart of the Chambolle-Musigny Appellation
The Estate
In Vosne-Romanée, Domaine Méo-Camuzet takes its name from Étienne Camuzet, who acquired vines in Clos de Vougeot in 1920. In 1959, Jean Méo took over the running of the estate and continued its story. The first vintage under the Méo-Camuzet label was produced in 1983. Today, the estate farms prestigious climats of the Côte de Nuits, including Richebourg, Échézeaux and Cros Parantoux. Its Pinot Noirs are elegant and profound, and express all the finesse of the Burgundy terroir.
The Vineyard
The grapes for this Chambolle-Musigny come from vines aged between 20 and 80 years old. The terroir is characterised by stony, well-drained clay-limestone soils resting on a Comblanchien limestone subsoil. The general east and south-east exposure offers ideal conditions for ripening the berries while preserving their natural freshness. The estate team monitors these parcels rigorously throughout the year.
The Vintage
2023 stands out as one of the warmest years in the region's recent history. The growing cycle was punctuated by several heatwave episodes, fortunately tempered by well-timed storms that brought the water the vines needed. A final heatwave during the harvest produced grapes of optimal ripeness, resulting in a generous crop of great quality.
Vinification and Ageing
The Chambolle-Musigny "Village" Méo-Camuzet Frère & Soeurs 2023 is harvested by hand into perforated crates. On arrival at the winery, the berries undergo a cold maceration of a few days. Fermentation is accompanied by pumping over and then gentle punching down, with a whole-cluster proportion ranging from 20 to 50%. Ageing then takes place in French oak barrels, 20 to 25% of which are new, for 14 to 18 months before blending in tank.
