Description
Characteristics and Tasting Notes for the Vosne-Romanée 1er cru "Les Chaumes" Domaine 2023 de Méo-Camuzet
Tasting
Colour
An attractive ruby red colour.
Nose
The bouquet reveals itself as complex, dominated by aromas of fresh blackcurrant intertwined with notes of roasted coffee, nutmeg and subtle peppery touches.
Palate
The attack unveils a structure combining power and delicacy. The silky, fresh texture rests on supple tannins that accompany flavours of blackcurrant and mocha. A mineral thread underlines the whole before stretching towards a persistent, well-balanced finish.
Food and Wine Pairing
This red wine pairs perfectly with game meats such as wild boar or venison, as well as with fine-quality meats accompanied by delicate sauces. It also enhances mushroom-based dishes, such as a porcini risotto, and pairs wonderfully with characterful aged cheeses.
Service and Storage
For an optimal tasting experience, it is recommended to serve this Vosne-Romanée 1er cru "Les Chaumes" Domaine 2023 at a temperature between 15 and 17°C. This wine can be enjoyed in its youth but has the structure needed to evolve in the cellar until around 2033.
The Elegance and Finesse of a Vosne-Romanée Premier Cru
The Estate
Formally founded in 1920, Domaine Méo-Camuzet is an emblematic figure of Burgundy, France. Located at the heart of the Côte de Nuits, this estate oversees a fourteen-hectare vineyard spread across prestigious terroirs. Today, Jean-Nicolas Méo heads the estate, carrying on a long-standing family legacy. Strongly influenced by the philosophy of the renowned winemaker Henri Jayer, the estate stands out for its environmentally respectful approach and its constant pursuit of balance, producing wines of great precision.
The Vineyard
The Les Chaumes climat is a Premier Cru strategically located at the southern end of the Vosne-Romanée appellation, at an altitude of 250 metres. The estate cultivates around two hectares of vines here, planted in the 1950s and 1970s. Facing east and southeast, this terroir benefits from optimal sunlight exposure. The soils, composed of limestone marl and clay, are moderately deep and stony, offering excellent drainage essential to the vines' development.
The Vintage
The year 2023 was marked by variable weather conditions. The harvest period, in mid-September, saw particularly intense heat. This phase was followed by a stormy episode at the end of September, bringing significant rainfall. This climatic combination resulted in berries with beautiful concentration while preserving natural vibrancy.
Winemaking and Aging
The estate's philosophy is based on minimal intervention. After manual harvesting and rigorous sorting, the berries undergo a cold maceration lasting a few days. Fermentation begins naturally with indigenous yeasts, accompanied by gentle pump-overs and then punch-downs towards the end of the process. This Vosne-Romanée 1er cru "Les Chaumes" Domaine 2023 is aged in oak barrels (60 to 70% new oak) for 15 to 18 months. Finally, bottling is carried out by gravity, without filtration or fining.
Grape Variety
Pinot Noir (100%).
